Pretty big get for Childress. Wasn't all that many years ago I wondered if they weren't going to go under. There was a LONG stretch they were a complete non-factor.

Fast forward to the end of 2023.

11 - Hamlin
18 - Gibbs
20 - Bell

Who would you give the 19 too? Jones may have been that guy by default. Here are the current Cup drivers who MAY be worthy of that 19 ride that don't already have commitments beyond 2023.

Alex Bowman
Corey Lajoie

That's it. Do you give John Hunter Nemechek the 19? No other Cup drivers beyond those guys are worthy. And calling those two worthy is a stretch.

Gibbs is in a difficult spot. Just because more than likely they'll have to pony up to steal someone, or rush a younger driver up before they're ready.

I'm not sure how close Chandler Smith is, but you have to think he has the inside track for the 19 in a few years or the 11 depending on how long Denny wants to go for. So with that in mind, they may want to get a vet for the 19 instead of locking up someone young long term.

I doubt Chandler Smith would get the 19 if Truex walked away after 2023. He's got an inside track to one of those two cars, but unless Truex retires in 2023 and Hamlin retires in 2024, realistically, who would sign a one year deal? Do you sign a guy like Lajoie and basically say this is your shot? Do you take a guy like Bowman from Hendrick and say this is your last shot?

This is where a guy like Brandon Jones would've filled a spot.

I don't know if Lajoie or Bowman take a year deal switching manufacturers in a "prove it" type scenario. My guess would be they move Kurt to JGR if he wants to keep going, then Chandler comes in. But yeah I don't think Chandler is there in '23 unless he just absolutely kills in Xfinity, its at least '24.

It's unfathomable that Toyota let Busch get away.

Big pickup for RCR. Shrub is easily one of the most talented drivers on this generation.

Like him or not, the man can drive.

Toyota may never recover from this.

Toyota still has talent. Not a good look for them to let Kyle leave though. I wonder what the issue was. Just money or something more?

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that M&Ms drops out and KFB is not returning all around the same time. Maybe it’s just that, maybe there’s more going on behind the scenes we don’t know about.

Bristol tonight. Hate that they moved this race to during college football season. I probably won’t watch a lap.

If this keeps up we could get a situation like Indy (2013?) with a tire caution every 40 laps.
