What is Chevrolet going to race when the Camaro goes away?
The only other car they make that could work is the Malibu and the way the market it going it won't be around much longer.
Nascar will have to race Blazers.

I’m ready to see these cars in a draft. Hopefully they won’t single file us to death in the Daytona 500.
There was an 8 minute video during the last round of Daytona testing. From what I saw, the slingshot is back and two cars can't push themselves away from the pack and not get run down. They appear to be making a big enough wake that the larger pack runs them down in a lap or so. Cars also looked loose and I know it was just testing but there were several position changes in the pack racing test.
I reminded me more of the early 90's plate racing than anything else. Guys moving forward, sucking up to the pack, making moves, etc.

The state of North Carolina is funding a revitalization of North Wilkesboro. They’ve started some demolition already. Rockingham also received funding
Outstanding news! I know that Rockingham isn't in nearly the state of disrepair that Wilkesboro is.

Guess you aren't a fan of short track racing then.

The other issue with brining races back to Rockingham and especially N. Wilkesboro isn’t just the state of the tracks themselves. The surrounding area needs to be able to support a current day NASCAR race. They need the infrastructure like sufficient cellular coverage, good roads in and out of the area, parking, hotels, camp grounds, restaurants, medical facilities, etc. Those things require contributions from others outside of just NASCAR and the track owners.

I've been to Wilkesboro. It's in the sticks, brother.

So what you're saying is all the bitches that keep bringing up Rockingham and North Wilkesboro have never visited either track, have no idea what the attendance was the last time Nascar raced there, have no idea how many regional tracks there are in that area, don't know why Nascar left there in the first place.
There's a reason why Nascar doesn't race there anymore. Build those tracks somewhere else.

The demise of North Wilkesboro had nothing to do with attendance AT THAT TRACK. It had EVERYTHING to do with Bruton Smith wanting a second date for SMI and Texas Motor Speedway. When Nascar wouldn't give him a 2nd date for TMS straight up, he partnered with Bob Bahre (Owner of New Hampshire Motor Speedway) to buy North Wilkesboro. They shuttered the track and each to a second race date to their respective speedways.

Thank you for bringing truth to the conversation. Some people just have no clue.

quote:It kind of did though (and it wasn't the fans fault - they were supporting it). NASCAR was entering its boom and Smith had to make a decision on it: expand a track that had 0 facilities outside to support it (hotels, restaurants, etc) in an area where he already owned multiple properties in a supersaturated area (Bristol, Charlotte, Rockingham, Martinsville, Richmond), or shed the property and expand elsewhere.
The demise of North Wilkesboro had nothing to do with attendance AT THAT TRACK.
I know everyone has a rallying cry to go back to NW for nostalgia's sake, but at the time in the mid-90's it was the right call. The big screwup that Smith made after he got rid of NW was not copycatting the design of that track and building it at Kentucky a few years later.

This. I'd love to see them back at a track like N. Wilkesboro, but like I said above, the infrastructure around the track can't support a current day NASCAR event even if they fix all of the problems with the track itself. The better solution would have been to build a similar track in another area rather than building more 1.5 mile tracks like Kentucky and Las Vegas.

For an event I think this was great. The stands were really full for LA! Cool to do a half time event with a big draw. The cars performed well with the composite bumpers and they look great. I know older people won't like this but NASCAR is moving in the right direction. Just wait and see what the next TV deal brings in.

Would have loved to see them go up onto the lower parts of the stands in the turns. Just enough to get a little banking to increase the speed, Overall that was pretty fun to watch.

Someone convince me how one of Blaney/Byron/Bell don't win Daytona this year.
