Someone convince me how one of Blaney/Byron/Bell don't win Daytona this year.
I think we see Brad Kes win Daytona. Bought into team, dude can draft, knows how to setup a car for plate tracks.

In all seriousnesss, this is a big win for NASCAR. And it was a really good race.
Yeah, can’t deny it. For the most part, product on the track and venue in particular, delivered. Some of the off track stuff wasn’t great… That’s really on FOX mainly. It drug on.
Hopefully, NASCAR doesn’t try to tweak formats too much or anything like that. It worked. You don’t need the off track gimmicks, so the goal should be to trim a little fat from the shite between heats and get the most out of the racing as possible.
The only thing I think would have changed on track is instead of having a big 24 car 150 lapper, could have done 2 more 12 car 50 lap heats where the top 6 advance, and put just 12 cars the main feature for 75 laps. 24 cars on a 1/4 mile got busy quick.

I agree w/all of this.
And thanks for admitting that you were wrong. There are a couple certain posters here(1 in particular) that are dug in and refuse to admit that NASCAR got it right.

When they put the race on Fox instead of some stupid third rate cable channel, they will keep many more viewers. Until they understand that, they are doomed for low ratings and a lack of followers.

To be fair, it was on FS1.
Pretty much all streaming services carry it.

They really did. And I was shitting on them like 5 minutes before the first heat about attendance.
At this point, I’m optimistic about the new car. They looked good and were beating the shite out of each other at times and they held up well. Mechanical failures are going to be a wrinkle this year until they get it all figured out. I think that’s a good thing. 500 miles is supposed to be an endurance thing too. It’s not just an arbitrary number to make sure we go 4 hours for sponsorship purposes.
I think the biggest complaint I have about NASCAR right now is the television production. F1’s tv coverage is bad arse compared to NASCAR right now.

And you have to have a subscription to watch. FOX is network broadcast and open to many more people. It was on FOX only for many years. And in those years more people watched than ever since. Remove the hurdles and more people will watch. Pretty simple.
In fact why not put it on FOX and one of their streaming channels also. Does not cost them anything. It is not like FOX is airing anything at that time of day on most weekends anyway.
They usually have paid advertisements or reruns no one watches.

Interesting note from Bob Pockrass: The winning team of the Daytona 500 will get to keep the winning car this year due to the shortage of actual new cars. Usually the winning car is taken and put in the Daytona USA museum for a year. NASCAR will instead wrap a next-gen test car in the wrap of the winning car, cover it in confetti, and put it in the museum.

Makes sense but is hilarious.

I don't think Keselowski finished a 500 in how many years...(it's four of the last five) but its quite possible.

Knowing that teams will have more freedom in the shock setup to tweak things with the new car and thinner side walled tires, I predict Penske cars will dominate the early part of the season.
Penske is widely known for having a superior proprietary shock & damper development program in their Indycar team.
You’d think that knowledge would translate over to this Next Gen Nascar.

Watched a segment from Dale Jr's Media podcast and there is a legit concern among teams with the lack of cars and parts availability for the next gen cars. Discussion included that you may not see a lot of pack racing due to concerns about having to have that car ready for the west coast swing in 2 weeks.
So basically after to listening to that segment, I would not be surprised to see a lot of single file, boring "action" during the 500.

That wouldn’t surprise me. I also saw where speeds may be slower the first few weeks of the season compared to what we’re used to seeing until the drivers get more comfortable in the cars.

Yep, I watched that segment, too. It was from the “Door, Bumper, Clear” podcast from Dirty Mo. All of those guys are current spotters in the Cup Series. It was definitely concerning. Sounds like the Duels will be nothing but a “get the cars up to speed” test for everyone but those trying to race their way into the 500. Now I’m feeling like this Daytona 500 will be sort of like the 2013 Daytona 500 (the first Gen 6 race) which almost entirely single file.

I think a wild card for the 500 is going to be mechanical breakdowns and overheating. That may make it more entertaining than we’re expecting.

My underdog pick is Corey Lajoie

Lets not forget these cars were supposed to be on track last year. Delayed due to Kung Flu so development was going on long before that and they still can't produce their spec parts in the quantities needed.
Nascar is such a shitshow.
