Lets not forget these cars were supposed to be on track last year. Delayed due to Kung Flu so development was going on long before that and they still can't produce their spec parts in the quantities needed.
They have also been making a lot of new changes before the clash based on the results from the Daytona test a couple of weeks ago. Driver's were reporting that the heat build up in the cockpit was pretty intense, so NASCAR had to redesign some venting, equipment routing, etc to help alleviate the situation. So now those parts have to be made or the teams are authorized to make themselves as long as they meet spec.

Nascar is such a shitshow.
Blame the supply shortages. Not NASCAR. But blaming them is the easy and lazy thing to do.

Some of that was common sense. You don't run the exhaust directly under the driver in a race car. Nascar did.

Nascar selected the sole suppliers of the mandated parts.
So yes, it is on Nascar for not selecting suppliers of sufficient capacity while also continually mandating changes.

Yea that was pretty dumb on their part. They should have kept them exiting to the right side of the car.

I'll cede that point. But they can't help that they, like everyone else, has been held hostage by the supply chain issues.

I believe it is one supplier who builds all of the bodies for both the Cup Series and the Xfinity Series. If that is correct, then NASCAR dug this hole themselves by expecting one supplier to keep up with that much demand.

NASCAR put a lot of guys out of work by mandating a single body supplier.

5 Star makes the bodies. They have been in the business for a long time though. It sounds like producing the new cup car caused them issues with their other lines.
They build all kinds racing bodies from Offroad Racing to Cup Racing.

Looks like several teams are bringing only one car for speedweeks(I still call it that).

Yeah I saw that the #4 team is only taking one car. Absolutely no doubt that the Duel races will be single file.
Really starting to think that much of the Daytona 500 will be single file, too. Just don’t think guys want to risk crashing due to both the unknowns about what a crash in the new car will be like and the risk of losing one of the few cars they have.

The Daytona 500 is officially a sell out. All grandstand, infield, and camping tickets has been sold.

Not a good year for it to be a 2013 snooze fest when Johnson won it.

Hopefully it's a good race/show and not a snoozer.

No matter if the race is single file for the first 150 laps. The last 15 or so is going to get crazy.
With the lack of cars it may be like watching an NBA game. Just tune in with five minutes left.
I got ole crazy Kurt Busch for the win.

quote:I tell ya what - that is PERFECT weather for a 500. I sat in the stands about 5 years ago when Kurt won it in the 41. Absolutely beautiful day in Florida, but once the sun set it started getting chilly in the stands with the wind. Bought a 500 hoodie that night and still wear it!
