McLaren has paid out the final year of Ricciardo's contract, with the Australian free to drive for whoever he wants in 2023 - no clauses on where he can race.

As of now, he has no next move agreed #F1

Does Ricc have to pay back any of that payout if he signs elsewhere or is he completely in the clear?

Bummer, I'm a McLaren fan and a Danny Ric fan so I had some high hopes for him and the team and it seems they never quite could get it together.

Sounds like he's in the clear.

Same. I love Danny Ric, but it’s obvious this marriage wasn’t going to work out. Excited for both Danny and McLaren having a fresh start.

Doesn’t sound like there is an offset, so he can double dip next year.

I think Mick wants out of Haas.

I know the Haas isn't a good care, but it's not like Mick has been impressive either. You could tell Russell could drive in the shitty Williams, where as Mick is getting out driven by Mag in the same car.

I know he carries the name cache, but I wouldn't be trying to swing my dick if I were Mick either. Where is he going to get another seat at?

Love Danny Ric. This has been a long time coming unfortunately. Really hoping he can find a seat for next year and get back into form.

He is too much of a jokester to take serious in a F1 car. Id buy him a drink but never let him race my car.

He's at the end of his career. He had a team or two (Renault) that wanted to develop a car around him but he never stuck around long enough for that to happen. I'm a fan of his personality but not of his driving and loyalty to teams.

Danny would of had a nice nice career as the #2 driver at Redbull if his ego didn't get in the way.

Renault was a shite show of a team, so I don't blame him there. I also think at the time, he was still considered one of the top driver on the grid and he didn't want to take a back seat to some kid. We know now that kid, Verstappen, is an absolute killer and a better driver, but I can also see why Ric wouldn't want to be clear second fiddle at the time.

It seems like he kind of just couldn't really ever find the right situation and maybe it just didn't exist. Some guys, in all sports, get unlucky like that. It is what it is.

Wasn't it also rumored that Red Bull were going to lowball him on his next contract but Renault offered him something like $20 million/year? If that truly is the case then I don't blame him for jumping to what looked to maybe be a team on the upswing that was willing to double or triple his salary.

Yea, he might look back and cry about never having won that WDC but his career moves over the last 4 years or so have netted him probably an extra $30-$40 million in earnings, I won't weep for him too much.

Haas may be down now, but as the money spending rules continue to affect how much testing can be done, you are going to see an evening out of the playing field unless they turn their heads the other way as Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull and Mercedes use available resources from outside their immediate organizations.
