Driver salaries are not part of the salary cap. Not sure how that plays into trading drivers for engine discounts and such.

Oh really?? For some reason I thought they were!! I mean, it makes sense now that I think about it... I was under the impression it was the entire operational budget including drivers... I'm guessing they're the only personnel excluded??

The top three salaries, other than drivers, are also not included.

So, you can spend $20 mil per year for a Newey if you want.

The FIA budget rules have specified prices for the various shareable parts so they can't play games with that.

Ferrari can't sell Haas a full front suspension for ten bux for example.

Yeah I was gonna say the same thing. A combination of that and maybe the car just doesn't suit him. I'm no conspiracy theorist but I wonder if the car is (perhaps secretly) designed in preference to Russell's strengths.

Look at Vettel. He was money for so many years, but Covid and Aston Martin have taken the fire out of his belly.

The fire left Vettel's belly when he slid straight on through the stadium hairpin at Hockenheim from the lead. He's just doing a Kimi now. I hate to say that because he's always been one of my favorites.

Had another excellent race considering he is driving a Williams.

It does have a bigger cockpit.

Russell could barely squeeze in the car when he filled in for Ham.

There was a theory floated, maybe I already posted it here, that the older drivers are having a harder time adapting with the cars since they aren't used to the ground effect dynamic.

The younger drivers are used to ground effect cars since they dealt with them more in the feeder series'

Not sure how much merit that has.

So is the rally car guy gonna get Williams moving in the right direction?

How long do team principals normally get a run to see if their vision is succeeding etc.

Alonso has only finished in the pts once this season. Long way to go, but on his way to losing to a teammate for the 2nd time in his career.

His engine issues are going to plague him later in the year.

I guess he has shown flashes of being properly quick at times.

A bit of a ride around the Miami track. They're going to have artificial water in the lagoon with the yachts.
