That's how it appeared to me as well. They were both driving hard but the RB seemed more on edge.

Probably plays into it. Why throw it away on the first day. K Mag doesn't talk much at all while driving but it seemed they were doing a lot of testing versus going for hot laps. Several times they told him to not activate DRS for example.
eta-Apparently Kev has the new chassis with Mick driving the one Kev had the first two races.

When we get a look at both Ferrari and RBR from the cockpit view compare the turn-in to turn 11. Leclerc, in particular, makes a violent 90 degree input and the car just turns, and at least yesterday there were no corrections. Max makes an early small input to adjust the attitude then hits it with the hard input but also has a couple of twitchy corrections every time. Of course, the RB18 is set up for speed not cornering perfection.

Those Ferraris looked well planted with a lot of pep in their step. Both Max and Checo were looking fast too, but not as under control. Lots of oversteer.
