Apparently Zak Brown has better places to be this weekend than Melbourne. He'll be racing his Jaguar IMSA GTP car in the IMSA GTP / Group C historic race at Long Beach in support of the IndyCar race. The grid is expected to be about 20 cars and includes legends like the Porsche 962, Mazda 787, and the Toyota AAR Eagle MkIII, the car that killed IMSA GTP. These were hi-tech beasts from the golden era of sports car racing.

For those unaware, Zak is an avid race car collector, and he says he drives all of the cars that he can fit in.

Wait, Eastern time makes it look complicated.

Showing the schedule in Pacific time makes it easier I think. I forgot we'll be watching the sessions the night before they occur.

Thursday

FP1 7:55 pm PDT
FP2 10:55 pm PDT

Friday

FP3 7:55 pm PDT
Qualy 10:55 pm PDT

Saturday

Race 8:30 pm PDT

Corvette GTP there or can they still not build an engine to stand the boost?

Those were good looking cars and fast but they left the pit with the pin pulled.

I like that graphic because it shows the channel. Let me do some work....

Also, Ferrari bringing back Mission Winnow.

Neon green on matte red is particularly hideous.

Phillip Morris apparently loves throwing money at Ferrari as I don't really see the return on the Mission Winnow gambit.

I just meant that FP2, Qualy, and the Race are technically on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively, but it's easier to think of them happening late on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.

Im working all the way through this weekends schedule, so the night races at least keep me entertained. Gonna miss the watch party though.

For anyone interested, Fat Harry's in NOLA will be staying open late to host a watch party.

FP1 in 15 minutes. Let's go Haas.

Car updates. Note no update for Merc. Haas new diffuser.

quote:

Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, have confirmed the updates brought by teams to this weekend's Australian Grand Prix.

Early 2022 pace-setters Ferrari and Red Bull are both taking the opportunity to run new parts, but Mercedes - having struggled for pace in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia - will compete with an unchanged car.

World Championship leaders Ferrari will trial a new diffuser, alongside their planned front wing sensor tests around the modified Albert Park Circuit. Red Bull, meanwhile, have a new front wing endplate.

Mercedes have no updates, with an updated floor expected at the next round in Imola, before an evolved aerodynamic package arrives in Spain.

What about the other F1 teams?
As for the other teams, Williams have a new beam wing, floor edge, front wing and front brake ducts, and Alpine new floor fences and a modified rear brake drum.

Haas will run an upgraded diffuser, McLaren revised winglets on the rear corner of their car and Aston Martin a new rear wing.

Alfa Romeo and AlphaTauri are the other teams with no upgrades in Melbourne.

Interesting that they are running the C5-C3-C2 tyres this weekend.

How often do they skip a step?

From what I heard, the C3 and C4 compounds were very similar during testing, so the jumped to C5 to add more of a wrinkle for teams

I dont remember seeing that before either

Seems like F1 is really throwing the kitchen sink at this race... newly resurfaced circuit, new layout, 4 DRS zones and now this

I actually think the green wing looks good. Didn’t think I’d like it. Seb on a Fkin scooter haha.

It is very unusual. One of the UK rags was bitching that it is a disadvantage for Merc but I gave up reading the article when I couldn't follow their logic immediately.

It appears this is a tale of two sectors between Ferrari and Red Bull. RBR owns the 1st sector and Ferrari the 3rd.

I'm going to opine Haas was on race fuel loads and that's the story I'm sticking to.
