think we would go something like 4/130-150 with an opt out after two or something but players usually take the larger total salaries

If you go short it is going to cost 40-45 million vs 30-35 long term imo

possibly, but i find it hard to believe they will offer more than 40 as that is such a large leap forward. i dont think they are going to be in for cole or strasburg but they seem set on either rendon, a lindor trade coupled with a seager trade to recoup minor league capital, or maaaayyyyybbbeeeee a mookie trade if things fall apart there

Kershaw is already at 35, so 40 is the next logical step and Cole is only 30. So 45 for 5 years before he falls off, I would do it. I believe high AAV but short term are the way to go.

we havent even gotten to 35 yet in AAV. greinke is only at barely over 34. there is one player in all of baseball with an AAV at over 35, and his name is trout. going from just over 34 to over 40 would be a major step forward. maybe needed to get him, but then we dont get him. just need to see what the market ends up being before we even start talking about what a short term, higher AAV deal would look like.

45 per for 5 years is a little too high in my opinion. Maybe if it’s a 10+year deal with it being later in the contract.

I think he is going to get 7 years 245

Meh, I thought the new deal Kershaw signed was 35 but it technically extended his current deal making the average 31.
Anyway, going from Trouts 12 year deal to something at 4-5 for a higher AAV would-be be significant for me. Much like Donaldsons 1 year 23 million deal when no team was going 20+ million a year over multiple years.

Possible that is the reasonable expectation but I could see a team coming in high and short

I would absolutely do a one year 45ish deal. I can care mess about that cause we could easily reset our tax in 2021. Right now we only have 35ish in space and unless the market explodes and he is getting 38+ offers, I doubt we go too crazy and go over 40...unless he wants one year then yea

A lot of gm’s still have the old school mindset of not liking pitchers on long contracts as well. 7 -8 years at the most

35ish even with Ryu leaving, not resigning Hill, etc?

Most of the Dodgers players are on team friendly deals outside of Kershaw and Jensen I thought

I still have:
Cole- Astros
Rendon- Nationals
Ryu- Dodgers
Strasburg- Nationals

The top FA will resign, no movement

Wheeler- SD
Donaldson- Braves
Didi- Brewers
Mousakes- Rangers
Grandal-Brewers

Cole is more likely a Yankee than an Astro next season.

If Cole goes short-term no way he goes lower than 40 so maybe 4 years at 40

Nah, I don't see the Astros letting him go plus the fact he is comfortable there
