Management apparently concedes a roster strategy ideally suited to dominate a 162-game regular season needs more star power in short post-season series against top-quality opponents.
Cleveland shortstop Francisco Lindor, Boston outfielder Mookie Betts and Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant are apparently on a short list of about 10 top-tier talents the Dodgers have discussed.

There is no guarantee you will get Donaldson. There are a lot of teams that still need a 3B so Donaldson's value just sky rocketed.
Current rumor out of Winter Meetings is Rangers may be turning to Maikel Franco

As much as I dislike Tony "Two Bags" leaving the Nationals I do get some enjoyment that he will continue to be a thorn in the Astros side for years to come

He is definitely getting older, but last year he was worth more fWAR than Pete Alonso, Juan Soto, Kris Bryant, Francisco Lindor and Freddie Freeman.

No true Rangers fan wants Donaldson on this team. He could hit 100 home runs for us next year if we sign him and I’d still flip him off every time he crossed home plate.

Jon Daniels can suck it!

Gardner is officially back with Yankees. One year 12.5 with team option for 10

Rangers officially out on Donaldson according to local media. Thank God.

That would leave just Atlanta and Washington unless there is a secret team.
Maybe the potential availability of Bryant, Arenado, Correa, and Lindor from the left side of the infield is causing teams to pass on Donaldson.

Trading for Andujar
This has been wildly reported as a possibility for months though.
He is also such a bad fielder. We would be better off just throwing Solak at 3B.

ESPN article on a potential Braves/Cubs trade involving Bryant
LINK
LINK
quote:
Why Atlanta? Its propensity for short-term cost certainty fits Bryant's profile. He's likely to make about $45 million in the arbitration process the next two years, which would undoubtedly be two contending seasons for the Braves. Then he can leave via free agency if he chooses.
The Cubs, meanwhile, could pick from a pool of pitchers that includes Mike Foltynewicz and Max Fried at the major league level and highly touted prospects Kyle Wright and Ian Anderson at the minor league level. Plus, the Braves could send third-base prospect Austin Riley and/or Johan Camargo back in a deal.
The teams fit like a glove.
One source also indicated that Snitker thinks Bryant would "fit in perfectly" with his current Braves, bringing championship experience with him. One sticking point could be Bryant's service-time grievance, which is making its way toward an early January decision, according to a source. If Bryant wins, he will become a free agent after next season. As unlikely as that is, the teams might have to agree on two deals, one with less service time in mind and one for two years.
