Literally no one cares that Hamlin won the 500. I don't think Hamlin cares right now.

Newman is a really nice guy too. Met him back in 2004 in atlanta speedway. Dude signed everyones autographs that wanted one. Hopefully he has speedy recovery and gets back out there

Nothing short of a miracle.

Sort of random but I wonder if they will alter the Gen 7 designs to try to strengthen the areas where Newman got hit
No doubt NASCAR will look at this and determine how they can make that area of the car stronger and safer.

Nope, haven’t even thought about him since we first got notice that it was pretty serious.

I'm out fellas. I've been in a dark internet tornado since the end of the race. I still have work to do before I call it a night.
I'm not a religious person but my thoughts are definitely with Ryan and his loved ones tonight. I'm thankful for the safety advances this sport has made in the past 20 years and so very thankful to the on track personnel and the medical staff that are treating Ryan throughout. This accident was terrifying and a reminder that these guys are wheeling these cars around a track and take a huge risk to do what they love.

For all the crap NASCAR gets they kick arse in the safety department.

I got dv like crazy but I still think NASCAR got the result wrong and when caution was supposed to be thrown Blaney was in lead

IndyCar and NASCAR safety is incredible

Newman being alive is a testament to the safety of these cars. Dude was hit 12" from the top of his head by a 3400# monster running 205mph.
Nothing short of amazing
I'm adding an FIA and Earnhardt bar to my cage.
One hopes you never need it, and likely never will, but if you do...

Miracle of engineering maybe.

People made fun of the FIA “thong” but it’s a great advancement

Which means they would have cleared the track and gone green white checkered again.

Bit of trivia, Ryan Newman has a degree in mechanical engineering

I’ve just been sitting on my couch with the tv muted checking for updates the last two hours. So happy his injuries are non life threatening but I’m gonna be praying that it’s a full recovery.
Same. Wife walked in and asked why I was sitting in silence with my phone blowing up (race group text)

No they wouldn’t have. The wreck happened on last lap. Any flag after white ends the race.

If caution waves on final lap, the race is over. Blaney would have been the winner.

Denny just posted on twitter:
“First a foremost I want to give well wishes and prayers to @RyanJNewman. I had absolutely NO IDEA of the severity of the crash until I got to victory lane. There’s very little communication after the finish and i had already unhooked my radio. It’s not anyone’s fault. ??Rocket“
