Probably the best 5A team since the split to not win the state title. We were LOADED. Notable players:
-Christian Campbell at QB (best player in the state that year, current starting in Georgia Tech's secondary)
-Reggie Walker at LB (currently playing for Kansas State)
-Donavaughn Campbell at DT (currently at LSU)
-Jeb Kraft (solid backup QB, led us to quarterfinals the following year)
-Jakyle Holmes (great athlete, was QB during our 2016 9-1 season, currently at ULM)
-Brian Rodgers (solid RB)
-Aaron Malik (solid kicker)
We went 10-0 in the regular season, never trailing in regulation. The only game that wasn't over at halftime was a 24-21 win against eventual Division I champion Jesuit. In the first round, we crushed South Lafourche 76-22. The following weekend, we played defending state champion Acadiana. Christian Campbell got injured during a TD run in the 3rd quarter, severely limiting his mobility. We ended up losing 38-28. If not for the injury, I firmly believe we would've won state that year.

If they were so loaded they'd get out the 2nd round.

People remember champions. Work break rooms are full of high school stories of what could have been.

Thanks for that summary, Uncle Rico

Wasn’t LSU interested in Campbell as a DB but he went to GT for a shot as an option QB? Guess he ended up at DB.

So you came to TD to relive your Glory Days?

I don't know dude. Yes Christian got hurt, actually late hit in the end zone on a TD run to be exact and he was limited. But if I am honest with myself and take off the green and white glasses. The defense never adjusted to that funky quick snap veer that Acadiana ran.

they talked to him and sniffed around but never officially offered him.

True, but they never really consistently stopped us either before Campbell got hurt. It would’ve come down to who had the ball last (or perhaps another Acadiana fumble).

You guys were losing before he even got hurt. And 2010 West Monroe is probably the best team to not win State. Half their front 7 on defense played for TCU.
ETA: 2006 Catholic High was pretty damn good too.

We had just scored the TD to bring us within 2, and Jeb got the 2-point conversion. And I'm particularly talking about teams in the post-split era.
