Why? It is very possible the Saints don't make it...

I suppose, but its pretty rare that one of the top 3 quarterbacks in the league do not make the playoffs.

quote:

Schedule is harder than last year
It was harder in 2010 and they went 11-5
quote:

defensive is under going a transition

If by transition you mean replaced shittastic LB core with guys that can play and added a very good defensive tackle then yeah.
quote:

counting on Brees/Sproles to put up similar numbers as last year isn't promised

so is every other team with decent players...what player has put up more consistent numbers in the league than Brees?

lost a pro-bowl offensive lineman (although replaced him with one)

who is probably one of the best guards in the league at screens
quote:

lost #2 receiver
Wait WHAT? Colston, Sproles, Pierre Thomas, Graham, Moore all caught more passes than Meachem. He is a 4th option in the passing game on his best day.
quote:

still have no idea who starting RB is or that they will produce

they will rotate running backs like normal per the situation
quote:

head coach gone for entire year, interim coach gone first 6 games

obviously huge and really the ONLY reason why the team could struggle so far that you have listed...although Carmichael has worked with Brees for most of his career and the 2 worked hand in hand with Payton in developing game plans...will be interesting to see how the offense is different. Remember Carmichael called the plays throughout the entire beastmode portion of last season.

, Caroline and Tampa improved in offseason....

Fair enough but how will that actually translate...Cam could be do a soph slump like most of the successful rookies of the past few years.

BOOM
It's quite comical when people start throwing out reasons why the Saints will fail this season. You sir like a true Saints fan backed up your reasoning with facts.

so why is it so absurd to think Seattle over takes them

Their defense for one and John Harbaugh has been owning Pete Carrol for a long time is another.

Saints fans sure do seem to hate them some 49ers. Kinda weird.

people mention the Saints having a harder schedule. Here is Carolina's:

@Tampa Bay
New Orleans
@ Atlanta
Seattle
-Bye-
Dallas
@Chicago
@Washington
Denver
Tampa Bay
@Philadelphia
@Kansas City
Atlanta
@San Diego
Oakland
@New Orleans

not exactly a favorable schedule either. I say they match last year's record or go 7-9 at best.

Yeah, that's it

The Seahawks beat Baltimore last year which I'm pretty sure makes Carroll 1-0 vs John Harbaugh

quote:

Their defense

Seattle was #7 in points allowed (SF was #2), They were #9 in yds allowed, (SF was #4). So tell me again why its so absurd? Must be Saints fans hate and not 49er fan bias I suppose.

Not nearly as comical as the Saints fans that think its beyond the realm of possibility.

No team has ever gone thru what the Saints will as far as their coach. To think that will have no impact because the all world QB (that BTW is still not signed) knows the offense.

Could the Saints rally as one and make the playoffs? Sure, but they could also struggle and miss out in a tough NFC and getting tougher division.

I've just noticed there seems to be a lot of 49er hate from Saints fans on this board.

Oh come on you know I meant Jim

He beat Pete 2 out of 3 at a much worse program in college and swept him last year.

Well like your stats show, the 49ers had the better D.

I just think the vast majority of people with no dog in the hunt would say the 49ers have been very impressive in turning that franchise around. I don't think "yeah well every year some team falters" is a good enough reason. That roster is strong except for Alex Smith obviously. I don't think they'll win the Super Bowl or anything but they'll have to be dealt with.

When the 49ers make it to the playoffs on a more consistent basis and I'm talking more of what they've been like in the past decade not franchise history, then I'll recognize them as a contender. At this stage, to me they're a one year wonder.

They're a good team i think. I've always hated them because growing up they were division rivals. I'm sure other saints fans feel the same way.

Historically Stanford is worse than USC obviously and they were much worse in 2007, but in 2009, USC was 9-4, SU was 8-5, in the short term they were fairly = teams. Last seasons sweep aside, its hard to say its an "owning", but the college record is irrelevant at this level.

#7 v #2 is not a significant enough difference to say that is the reason its "absurd" to pick Seattle this year. In 2011 Seattle played the first place schedule, while SF was playing the 3rd place schedule. This year its reversed.

I don't think 1 season is enough to say the franchise has been turned around for starters, but picking Seattle to win the division is not in and of it self saying the 49ers will be bad.

You see just the fact that you're pulling this card makes you sound like a 49er hater, which is fine but just own it like the other guy does.

Oh and in the NFL there is a difference between #2 and #7. One is very good and the other is elite.

Really. so the Bengals went 11-5 last year, if I say, I don't think one good season is enough to prove they have turned the franchise around, it makes me a Bengals hater? Sounds to me like you are just butt hurt if someone picks against your team.

And FTR : I never hated the 49ers, even when they were dominating the Saints division, because I always HATED the Cowboys and SF won with the catch The Saints were so bad when SF got good it never bothered me.

Also, I'm not even saying I'm picking Seattle. I was just saying its not absurd in the modern NFL.

Congrats on having an elite D in 2011. But I believe we are talking about the prospects for the 2012 season and you were implying Seattle's defense was not very good. I showed that it actually was.
