The USGA wanting to control the super who is thought to be the best one in golf. Plus you have a membership that is up there with Augusta of not to be fricked with, or they will tell the USGA to pound sand. The USGA got the message last night and the course is now where the super and members wanted to be. Pin placements are tricky...and you can tell the greens were rolled. The course is going to frick the players minds the rest of the weekend.

That's often a good formula for a boring finish with one guy beating the field by multiple strokes.
No, the members at Wing Foot does not want a player like Sabatini come on the course and shoot under par. They take pride they have a course that is extremely difficult.

Louis! So close, and then...so far away.

Pride is one thing but respecting a player that could finish at like 5 under on Sunday would have to be looked at as wow..... I mean let’s look at just one hole that is like 650 yards long and you Better hit the fairway or it will eat you lunch......

people who announce golf's inability to understand the cutline will never cease to amaze me.
Faldo does this EVERY week, and thinks Rickie has to birdie to make the cut.

Agreed...... the leaders are just teeing off and there is no way of knowing how they will fair.... I have a feeling it will be a brutal afternoon.

My bookie had Bryson at 24/1 this morning. Kicking myself for not jumping all over that.

welp, as I expected, scores are pretty darn high today. Would be shocked if anyone finished this tournament under par and am strongly leaning towards the winner finishing several shots over par. Only 4 rounds under par right now and no one better than -2 for the day. But goodness some of these scores so far have been large numbers.

You think you were the only one that saw how tough it was gonna be today????? Like I said , the groups this afternoon are in tough shape.... and BTW..... Tiger won’t make the cut......

I'm more so referencing some of the posters that thought we were gonna see a winner at -15 or somewhere around there because there were a handful of guys who went low Thursday. I had a somewhat long post about the weather forecast and pin locations moving forward that would render that possibility as very unlikely.

The problem I have with having an “easy” day is that the guys who go low 1/4 days have a better chance to win.
Theoretically you could have someone shoot great 3/4 rounds and still lose because they didn’t have their best on the first day. Golf is a game of strategy, and the strategy is much different when you don’t have to gamble.

Yesterday wasn't supposed to be that much easier. The greens softened up because of some rain they had, and the pin locations generally are going to be the easiest on Thursday in any tournament. But with the weather expected from yesterday through the rest of the weekend and more difficult pins, no one should have expected low scoring to continue. This happens all the time. Someone goes low on Thursday and someone will just multiply that score by 4 and think that's a reasonable 72 hole prediction. Golf doesn't work that way very often. Guys who may go low one day, won't another. But even yesterday, there were so few players under par that it wasn't going to be likely that would continue for those players for 4 rounds. Hell, Patrick Reed made a hole in one on a hard one bounce and straight in the hole. If that ball lands an inch in any direction, he likely makes par there. That's a 2 stroke swing right there to get him to -4.

Someone posted on here that it was done intentionally because of predicted weather conditions today, tomorrow, and Sunday

There was also very little wind yesterday and it's 14mph today and tomorrow. It wasn't like they came together and designed an "easy" day.

My man he has already told you he isn't explaining this to you. Several people in this exact thread expected the low scoring to continue. That is who he is talking to.

The wind is just brutal out there.......

Missed opportunity there for Tiger. When you have a chance to score on a day like today you can't miss

No, they basically placed the pins in the middle of the greens (allowed shots to run up to the holes)...plus, the USGA DID NOT ALLOW the crew to roll the greens (report was there was a heated discussion between the USGA and the Super yesterday). The USGA set it up too easy yesterday, the members and the super chirped up and told the USGA to allow the crew to set it up tougher.
