I get it. But man...he was really, really good.
I look at it like I look at Dan Marino. Lots of QB’s with rings, but not many that were better quarterbacks.
If it's accomplishments and rings, then yeah Marino has zero business being included among the greats but if it's ability, dominance, longevity, productivity and consistency, Dan Constantine Marino is among the elite of the elite takes a team to win a title yo Marino did his part at an elite level annually

How many Championships did Malone win
How many did George Gervin win? That doesn’t mean that he wasn’t really freaking good at basketball. The current generations fixation with championships or you can’t be great is absurd.

It's a relevant when saying he was better than Shaq imo. Championships do matter
Eta I'm 45 so not really current generation

Then let's just discount Barry Sanders from the greatest of all time lists because, you know, he never won a championship.

Championships are not the end all be all. They should be considered though, along with the context of their team and the league at the team etc. The entire point is winning, so how good a player is is ultimately the same thing as how good they are at helping their team win. And in basketball a single player has more of an impact on their team winning than in football so it should weighted more so

Nice..... but Magic is number two.....
No way. Magic was a beast, but he couldn't play multiple positions at an elite level and carry teams.

If we're being fair with ranking players, we have to account for the fact that, as great and legendary as Michael Jordan is, until Scottie, Horace, and Phil Jackson were on the Bulls he did not have a winning season. We still give Mike due credit and all that for the chips and preceding winning Bulls seasons but we cannot be inconsistent in the team success application because of how mythical one player's status is.

Magic was not an elite defender for his position nor a shooter until he started using a set shot late in his Lakers tenure, didn't hurt the team but he wasn't that total package player like LeBron, MJ, Big O, Elgin, etc were, was what it was

until Scottie, Horace, and Phil Jackson were on the Bulls he did not have a winning season.

I saw Chamberlain get stuffed at the rim by Russell in playoff games over and over and over.
I was 6 miles from.Philadelphia rooting for ChAmberlain.
Russel belongs ahead of wilt.

It's still crazy to me that there are adult people that didn't see Jordan. Being in your 30s is being shocked every day that it wasn't 1998 just a couple years ago. I swear I woke up one day and was old.
Netflix and ESPN have a 10 hour doc on Jordan coming out next year. I hope it's good and I hope it is popular with millennial basketball fans. The stories and the moments of greatness with MJ are endless

Pound for pound, The Dream's probably the most skilled player to ever play basketball, dude could do it all at an elite level and even stretch the court since he was capable of shooting beyond the interior always was in sick shape as well such great hand-eye coordination
Uhh... Lebron

Without question the best pound for pound talent to ever grace the court.
But GOAT? Can't go there with what I saw Jordan do as a competitor. That mother fricked refused to lose once he began to win.
It is difficult to sit here and not put Bird higher because when he was healthy he fricked everybody. Everyone. fricking destroyed everyone in his way.
But getting hurt did him in too early. Still, he owned Jordan and the Bulls.
If I ever see another player shoot all his first half shots left handed and make them like bird did again the arena will become so lit fights will break out.
Never seen a player purposely frick with the other team like Bird did in his prime.
