Dow futures are down 172 points, its going to be another 1000 point drop to day. All gains since Trump cane into office will be wiped out this week.

Anti-Trumpers want this virus to cripple markets and stall our economy.

No I don’t want a 7,000 point drop, but I think the market is headed there. Goldman Sachs predicted 0 profits for this year. That means recession and a big loss would result. Iran appears to be in trouble with the virus. There are a lot of reasons that point to huge problems. Because I feel that we haven’t seen the bottom yet doesn’t mean that I want that. I would like to be wrong, but it seems we’re in a free fall.

You sure you want to be the next MT anti-legend?

It’s not gonna be just one person predicting a recession

god fricking damn it. somebody explain to me why community spread/outbreak on US soil wasn't something the market expected?? Scientists have been telling us for 14+ days that it will come here. the frick is wrong.
I think you are underestimating this virus.
There are no signs that it’s going to slow down. And in a month or two we may reach critical mass on the number of patients in our hospitals. At that point we will be forced to shut a lot of things down to slow the spread. I think that’s what the market is reacting to.

Back to the OT.
Not to mention the frick ups at the CDC.
And when I say it’s going to be bad, I’m not talking about amount of deaths. I’m talking about it’s ability to disrupt our daily life. We haven’t even seen that start yet.

Anyone who didn’t know had to be living under a rock. The MSM has been so excited about this and blasting it non stop.

I doubt the average person did.
The average person isn’t driving price discovery in the market.

If you asked the average person on the street Friday if they thought corona virus had been spreading in the country for weeks and it would kill someone tomorrow, you think they would have said yes?
That’s what I’m saying wasn’t priced into the market last week.

Fair enough. I don’t have any evidence to disprove that. But my guess is that a lot of boomers near retirement are cashing out. Would that not cause a significant drop? Serious question, this isn’t my area of expertise

The current drop has been caused by institutional investors moreso than retail. Retail hasn’t exited in large numbers yet that I’ve seen.

sorry I just don’t see how the developments over the weekend would be priced in. I guarantee there was a large percentage that never thought it would get here. Now we are hearing it could have been here for weeks which most of us knew, but I doubt the average person did.
Who have you talked to that thought the US with open borders wouldn't have the virus here?
