Stanley Druckenmiller is considered one of the greatest investors of all time, boasting an incredible track record of roughly 30% average annual returns over 30 years (1981–2010) at Duquesne Capital Management without a single losing year. Known for his top-down macro approach, he is highly flexible, often betting big on conviction, and previously served as a lead portfolio manager for George Soros.

Druck and Soros broke the Bank of England with Druck’s trade idea
Druckenmiller is completely self made unlike a lot of other “gurus.”
I’ve always admired the guy with the way he is always humble and says “but I can change my mind at any time once the market tells me I’m wrong.”

Peter Minuit, Director of the Dutch colony of New Netherland, traded a few beads, some hand tools and trinkets for Manhattan Island.
It's been estimated the things he traded for Manhattan was valued at $24 at the time of the trade.

I love listening to his stories, but my favorite ones are when he tells what he got wrong.
For instance, he correctly saw the dot com bubble and started shorting later in the cycle, only for the nasdaq to rip in his face. So then, he unwinds his shorts and gets back long again only for it to all collapse.

Similar to an exchange on the Big Short

Friend,
It is surprising no one has mentioned John Templeton. I had the honor of sharing a meal with him in 2003. He was a true gentleman and a kind heart.
