Currently I claim 2. I’ve always claimed 0,1 or 2. This year i bumped up into another tax bracket. The 82K+ one. I put it into a calculator and it says that I will owe at the end of the year if i finish out claiming 2. I’ve always gotten money back claiming 2.

Single, no kids. Putting in $232 per week in federal. Not counting social security or OASDI.

Should i claim 1??

Because it was usually the perfect amount to not get a refund back & not owe at the end of the year. I could care less about a return as long as i don’t owe.

Because w4 withholding isn't the same thing as claiming dependents.

I'm single, no kids. I claim 2 Fed and 1 state. Between the student loan interest deduction, standard deduction, and paying for health insurance through my employer, I've still received a small refund every year. Obviously this year is a little in flux because of the tax changes, so we'll see if that needs to be adjusted.

You can claim whatever the hell you want on the W-4.

If you actually read the form, it even suggests 2 for people who are single with no kids.

It says enter 1 for single. Enter 1 for single with one job. Then you add them up to 2.

As for OP, there's payroll calculators online that you am play around with to know exactly what you should do

I am glad you get it.

I’ve been figiting around with calculators lately. I think i need to switch it up and go back to claiming 1 on my W4. Damn

You could change to claiming 1 or you could have a specific additional amount withheld.

I thought you could claim 1 if no one else can claim you as a dependent

I'm single and no kids and I claim 2

I haven't owed yet but I usually have some out of state tax refunds that would cover anything that I might owe anyway

I've used this one recently and it was giving me the exact numbers I see on my check.

I would come up with a rough estimate of what you will owe based on your PY return but with the increase in W-2 wages and any other big changes you expect. Then check your pay stub to see what you've already paid and use the calculator to see what will be withheld based on the number of allowances you claim.
