If you take the time to switch to Walmart, why not go to a mom and pop store? Like another poster said, it is like heaven compared to a chain.
Because Mon - Fri 9-4 doesn’t work for me.
If there was a local that was open until 8 pm and open on weekends, and took my insurance, I’d switch there in a heartbeat

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mom and pop drug store in my area. Walmart pricing is great and it’s convenient. I also use Kroger pharmacy. I have zero loyalty to a pharmacy…it’s a price and convenience of location decision. They are a fulfillment arm and nothing more for me.

My parents live in a rural parish. There is one pharmacy in the whole parish, and it is mom and pop, literally.

Well, if rural they don’t have many options so I would assume they go where they can

Maybe if they built a 2nd one across the street from CVS they’d do better.
I kid you not, but there are two Walgreens on the same intersection in Gulfport. So they could use a little more space between stores of different ownership including their own. One is a store they built and the other one was purchased when they took over RiteAid stores in the south.
Ida killed my local Walgreens that started many decades ago as a K&B. The store was just updated right before Zeta and after Zeta had damaged part of the store.
Not sure if it was a leasing issue or if they own the property. The rest of the shopping center was being used as a FEMA camper site.

They went all-in on COVID vaccinations and boosters which created a false market for their retail side in the foot traffic. Staffing issues as mentioned before as well as a futures outlook that that is poor are causing a negative outlook.
I’m not sure what impact the current and future price negotiations between pharmaceutical companies and Medicare will have on retail, but I’m assuming negative. Pharma has been lobbying against it and the crap rolls down hill.
I would sell if I owned it or stay away if you don’t.

So is Walgreens the next Rite Aid?

I spent a few days in the hospital a couple of months ago. When I checked out, the Dr. had me get some pills before I left. They cost me $1 each.
A few day later, I saw my regular Dr. and he wanted me to take the pills a little longer. Walgreens charged me $5 per pill and would not come down on the price when I questioned why it was so high.
I am now using Walmart and another pill I take is about 75% cheaper there.

Walgreen's pharmacy service got so bad locally that I had to stop going there.

local owned drug stores
That's all fine and dandy unless you have Athem/BlueCross and you must use CVS or Mail-Order or they don't cover the drugs.
