Looking to dump about $50k and likely buy $2k a month for the next 15-20 years.

VTI or VOO. My understanding is not too much of a difference. 85% of VTI is just VOO. So they’re almost identical.

The difference is that VTI also contains small cap and mid cap stocks that VOO does not.

I like VOO. I think that the rich getting richer is the future and it applies to corporations, not just households.

My IRA is about 60% VOO & 40% VTV. One focuses heavily on Tech, the other is concentrated in Financials, healthcare, etc.

I have VTI but VOO is similar. I split one of my IRAs into VTI and VGT. Easy to set and forget (unlike the rips in MSTR and dips like SLI).

VOO is a market weighted index of S&P 500, the “focus” on tech is merely a result of the market caps of tech companies exploding. If financials, industrials, energy etc. start growing their market caps, it will reflect the growth of those segments.

I’ve been dropping money in both. I’m pleased.

In reality there isn’t much difference. The concentration of the US markets doesn’t allow for it.

I’d rather hold VTI given only these two options.. but it’s still heavy in the top names.

VOO is a S&P 500 tracking ETF. VTI is a total market tracing ETF.

There is a difference.

VOO is a Large Cap blend ETF
VTI had Mid Cap and Small Cap stocks included

You can't go wrong with either. Past performance is almost the same. I think voo has outperformed by like 1% over the last decade plus because of the slightly higher concentration on mega-cap tech.

I have a mix of VTV, VTI, VOO, VONE & SCHA. They all track similarly, but are different enough.

You can’t go wrong with either. Both are conventional equity investments and will get you in the big boat.

It’s different.. but not by much.

They will track each other relatively close over the next 3-5-10 years. Maybe longer.

Both are heavily dependent on the top 10 names due to market cap concentrations.

Both actually are not that good and underperform. Especially on a risk adjusted return. VTIs alpha is bad!

Not identical. VTI is total market index. VOO is s&p500 index. Both are good choices, but I prefer VOO. Why not own both?

Can you refute what I said? Go look on Morningstar. Look at the rush and alpha. Look at the performance against The same benchmarks. Even Morningstar has VTI as only a three start.

So please. Enlighten me how how you know more than all of that?
