As I've mentioned before I had a big go around with Verizon. I had the service for several years and always paid promptly. However, their promise to build towers enabling me to call from my own home never materialized, so after about 5 years I canceled the service.

I paid my last monthly bill but refused to pay early termination fee of 175 since I did not terminate early (and I NEVER changed type of service). I received 10 threatening letters and over 50 phone calls by 3 different collection agencies over the next 2 years.

I informed all of the callers that Verizon was conducting a scam that was illegal. They were classifying ANY termination as EARLY termination.

Well, I got a class action suit card in the mail today. Verizon has admitted that their early termination policy is illegal and former users are being allowed to join the suit. Since I never paid the fee I'm not eligible. I don't want any of the suit money. I'm just glad that Verizon is being sued for something so obviously illegal.

I think you mean Verizon Wireless . . . different company.

Well, Verizon Wireless is a cellphone company. Verizon is a landline company. Verizon Wireless is a spin off (maybe still partially owned) of Verizon and some other company.

I'm pretty sure that everyone knows I'm talking about the cellphone company.

Well, then you are talking about Verizon Wireless, not Verizon.

Do you sue General Mills when your General Motors car goes bad?

well it's a possibly illegal contract, which means there is no contract

also, i think he signed a 1 year deal, then when that was up paid monthly. i have done this before with sprint. but after his 1 year was up (See he said 5 years?), then he canceled

therefore, he didn't terminate "early." he lived up to the 1 year of payments he agreed to

Apparently you can't read. I canceled the service after 5 years.

Are you a professional a-hole or amateur?

If making a simple correction makes me an a-hole, then yes, I guess I'm a professional a-hole.

Excellent. Recognition of the problem is the first step in rehabilitation.

Were you still in contract after five years? Did you ever go and "upgrade" your phone during those five years? If so, you renewed your agreement. If this was pre-2007 and you changed your calling plan you probably renewed also.

If you renewed you agreement and broke it, then you're at fault.

Hi, Lowell McAdam! Glad to see you're on the chat boards getting the message out!

Hahaha, Well of course I'm not him but I do work in the wireless industry. I have to put up with quite a few customers who will ask for a free phone but will not agree to have service for at least a year so the company can recoup the money from the initial subsidy on the phone. That is why there are contracts.

If you don't like contracts then BUY all of your phones at FULL RETAIL PRICE. The retail price of the phone is REAL price of the equipment not the promotional $9.99 price tag. How in the hell would a company make any money if they sold small telecommunication devices with computers built into them without having an agreement of service.

I did not. And Verizon finally agreed with me and then started to say the charges were actually for the last month not paid. The last month was paid by their own admission during the first year of harassing calls.

I didn't. And neither did the other folks who won the settlement at 21 Million. What Verizon did was illegal.

Next question?
