Anybody know anyone who went to school for PETE at UL, and where they are working? Thinking about getting a master's from there and my main concern is the job prospects. Thanks in advance.

I am involved in grad school admissions at another school in Pete. I can give you some advice. Can you tell me your background?

I know some outstanding petroleum engineers working for majors that graduated from ULL, and there are some very good faculty members at ULL (Hayatdavoudi, et al). In fact, I was going to do my PE masters at ULL night school, but they were not accredited at the time (probably are now - they were finishing the paperwork).
For a masters degree, try to have a concentration in mind (drilling, production, reservoir) and a practical thesis topic. If you can work with somebody in the industry to get a practical solution to a useful problem, that will increase your marketability and ensure you are developing desirable skills along the way.
Best of luck to you.
ETA: There is plenty more I could mention if you are interested, having recruited/interviewed college and experienced hires over the years. It just depends on your background and what exactly you are trying to accomplish with your career.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I did meet with a professor in the dept. and I asked who recruited there, and he only named 4 companies (2 service) which didn't exactly sell me on the idea. But, I would apply heavily to operators who don't recruit directly from UL because there are tons who hire interns/recent grads.
My main concern is whether UL petroleum engineers are getting hired by the oil companies (majors, independents, etc.). Also, I would like to focus on production or reservoir engineering, since I am already working in the drilling industry, and would like to try another discipline.
Bayou Tiger, thanks for the info. It's pretty tough to find any good information like that online. I'll go talk to Hayatdavoudi, since the prof I spoke with didn't have a whole lot of advice.
