got over a $100k in this thing between 2 kids with one needing theirs starting next year. I hope it’s still all there.
This is going to be a fantastic class action suit against the State of Louisiana.

But Louisiana won’t compensate affected residents
No. The people that can afford to put money away matter to these politicians. We're not talking SNAP recipients.
These are generally wealthy or upper middle class households. Maybe even middle middle class.
Basically we can all afford to cause a ruckus.

I have a big investment in the 529 for my kids. Reading this thread freaks me out. Is this on the news at all?
Not even an email telling us we have a problem.
The more suppressed the info is, the more I worry.

The one thing that will be kinda crazy is if the auto deposits still happen even if this is still going on. I have $300 total that goes to lofsa automatically on the 20th of the month. We will see what happens

I would not be surprised if they keep taking the money. They are going to rob Peter to pay Paul.

The question is who is taking the money, the plan or some guy is Russia?

Can you move funds out of this type of account without any fees or penalties?
If so, where would you guys recommend keeping the $$$?

So basically they have no idea what’s going on. Typical Louisiana

My deposits on 9/25 went through.
I don’t even know my account balance as I don’t frequently log in. Kids are several years away from needing it. But I’m sure I have around $80k in there.
If this doesn’t get made right I’m accelerating my move to MS.

I guess it’s my fault for opening a 529 in a state run by idiots. I should’ve known better.
This is a shite show.

My sentiments exactly.

Not a single email has gone out to account holders letting them know what’s going on. My email to them from 2-3 days ago has not elicited a response.
Can you imagine a reputable financial institution handling it that way? No, because they would lose tons of customers.
Yet another example of why government-run programs mostly suck.

We moved ours to our Raymond James (with our other accounts) for simplicity. No penalties or fees because it was straight into another 529 plan.

Roger that.
How difficult was it moving the money from LA 529 to RJ? How long did it take?
I'm seriously considering moving the $ after this fiasco.

If it's a ransomware attack, the email server might still be shut down.
Tinfoil hat time; state legislators are meeting about it because they're trying to decide whether to pay the ransom.

The longer this goes, the more I become worried. Even an email or some kind of news response would be nice but the fact they are silent makes me think this is a really big deal with some potentially large consequences.
Regardless of all this, they have completely eroded the publics trust to begin using this or continue using this.

An email to the listed email address, START@laregents.edu, in the press release gives an automatic reply. Not going to hold my breath for them to respond.

Thank you for contacting the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA). We are currently experiencing a high volume of requests. Please know that all START 529, K-12, and ABLE accounts are being actively monitored.
We are working to provide account holders with system access to view accounts and moving toward restoration of services as soon as possible. Our support team is working hard to resolve all requests as soon as possible. We apologize for the delay and will get back to you as quickly as we can.
LOSFA START Team
Media Advisory - Monday, October 6
Louisiana State Police, the Office of Technology Services (OTS), and the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) are continuing to work with the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) to fully and securely restore operations following an incident that required LOSFA to take its systems offline. LOSFA, the State Treasurer, and the relevant banks have closely monitored the START system throughout this interruption. All accounts are insured.
Educational institutions have been notified of the disruption to Louisiana’s 529 college savings program, START, and asked to work with all affected students to minimize any impact on educational services.
LOSFA is working to provide START account holders with access to the system to view their information as soon as possible. Additional updates will be provided, as appropriate.
If you have questions about your START account, please contact START@laregents.edu. For questions about any other LOSFA services, contact the Regents front office at 225-342-4253.
We thank everyone for their patience as we work diligently to fully and securely resolve this incident.

The longer this goes, the less tinfoil hat that sounds and the more most logical conclusion it is.
