When they tell me there's a dealer prep fee I just laugh.

What are you going to do, put it together for me?

Meh. Bought 2 in last 4 months. Same dealership. 2023 luxury SUV and 2021 full size truck. Both times willing to barter. BS fees were approx 1200.

private sellers these days are out of touch with the market for the most part. They are wanting more than dealers. We see it all the time.

Part of the problem is the dealers gauged them so bad on new vehicles back during Covid, so they are upside down on vehicles they are now trying to sell. Dealers are dealing with the same issue, which is also impacting why used vehicles are so high.

Car market is much more of a commodity now. With all the information they know what they are worth from day to day.

I used car edge getting my last two cars. I signed up on the monthly plan, search nationwide and got one local and one shipped.

Each state has their on doc fees limit, in TX I think is it only $150 though. The one that was shipped was only $600 for shipping. It was a 2023 with only 900 miles, picked up at dealership in Missouri and delivered to my house in Texas. Getting this one from MO, was $3000 cheaper than anything I could find in TX and I never stepped foot in a dealership.

Search nationwide.

Caredge is a great resource.

Costco car buying service is good too, my dad used them in 2023 and got a substantial amount off a new Honda Pilot when there werent many discounts to be had.

Look at Enterprise vehicle sales. I bought a used truck there several years ago and will again soon.
