i have my 401k in a target fund and at my age falls into a moderately aggressive investment strategy. With double digit losses from the last few weeks, should i call and change it all to low risk until this crap goes away?

No, that would mean selling stocks while they're low and buying more low yield bonds. I'd wait it out.

Literally the dumbest thing you could do right now, other than cashing out completely.

You shouldn't even look at your 401k statements, if you are in for 30 years it will average out.

No, you're obviously pretty young.

Now is the time to be buying in the stock market. Don't change anything.

in 4-5 months you will be happy

Unless he manually reallocates his existing investments, the election that he’s talking about would probably just affect his future investments. But still, given his age, I wouldn’t worry about it either.

I was thinking of doing the same. I am 45 though and not looking to retire till 60 at the soonest, but most likely 63. My brother just said to ride it out, which is what I will do. He has lost way more than I.

What sucks about this? Would you rather max both when the market is down 30% or when the market is at all time highs? You are buying more shares now and assuming in the long run the market goes up (which it always has in the past) then you will be better off for it in the future.
