All I know is this. My father owns his own business and does extremely well for himself. He has an account in the Cayman Islands. It has a little north of 3 million in it the last time I saw it about a year ago. Why he has one I have no idea. Is he doing something sketchy, I have no idea. Is he tax evading? No clue.

But, I do know his CPA knows about it and they don’t report anything and he’s never been audited or anything like that. Take that for what it’s worth

With that said, what do you recommend then?
I recommend you take a deep breath and relax. And stop reading ZeroHedge and watching Alex Jones.

And none of those guns and none of those bullets will prevent anything that I just said. You (and all other Americans) will just wake up one day, check your 401k and sit in agony as you see your balance with a bunch of 0's. And the sad thing is there will be nothing you, me or anyone else will be able to do about it.

What are you going to do? March on Washington? The U.S. military will have more guns, more bullets and better equipment and technology than you. At that point it will be too late.

Are there specific steps that your dad and/or your CPA take to hide the assets from the government and avoid an audit? I don't necessarily want to hide an offshore account from the government but I'm also not against it at this point either.

Does your father know the Caymen Island banks fail on a regular basis? In just the last 10 years 1 out of 3 banks there went bankrupt.

And they don’t have FDIC.

I have no idea man. He’s told me very briefly about it. Couldn’t tell you much more of details because I really don’t know.

True, and that same military won’t meet much resistance if it decides to invade the Caymen Islands to get your money out of a bank there.

Sorry, I thought you were rational and just wanted some preliminary guidance on having a bank account in a foreign country. I’m out....

I apologize, I didn't mean to get off topic. I mean is there another country that you think would be more secure in terms of having an offshore bank account?

Again, look at it from my perspective, I truly do believe the U.S. will fall apart. Maybe not in the next few years but it will long term. I am 35 and truly believe that by the time I'm in my 70s or 80s there probably will not be a United State of America, at least in any way that we recognize today. It's a reason why I have decided not to have children. To make the exit plan a lot easier.

With that said I'm not ready to leave yet, not until my parents pass away. So in my situation, assuming what I believe will happen, what would you do? Where would you put your money and other assets? How would you ensure that you at least have some wealth when leaving the U.S. and not just leaving with the shirt on your back?

No comment on the caymans but it must suck living life with your attitude.

If you’re concerned with all this collapse stuff, why not just move cash to polann or wherever and store it in a safe place.

I agree with others in asking if you think the US collapses, where on earth would you go
That’s not collapsing?

But will Polish banks allow U.S. citizens to open an account? I've not heard anything about Polish banks and offshore accounts so I have to imagine it's not a great possibility.

Plus if I'm still living here in the U.S. and need to get access to the bank it's a lot easier for me to get to the Caymans than it would be to get to Poland.

Best way to get off the thumb of the USA govt is to renounce you citizenship. Then go live in Singapore or Philippines.

Sounds like a good idea, with my parents still alive though it's not a real option for me at this point.

Do you speak any languages other than English?
Have you actually visited any Eastern European countries on your own, for an extended period of time?
Do you have any marketable skills to earn a living if the existing order collapses? Seems like your exit strategy is still based on currency. If you’re gonna be obsessed with doom and gloom, at least prepare like Sarah Conner in Terminator and get some practical skills and languages into your brain.

Meanwhile, obsession with this stuff is deeply unhealthy. You are assuming you will live long enough to see a collapse. Buddy, you could croak tomorrow....what are you doing to help those around you, to enjoy your life, to live today?

Therapy is probably available in your community today, on a sliding scale thanks to the socialists among us.

You should listen to this podcast on NPR planet money called “hunting for the hundreds.” I think it might help you answer your question as to “where” will be safe in the case of a US collapse.

Considering 75% of US currency is overseas already simply bc the whole world is invested in the US (outside of their country) for the same reasons you’re wanting to move money out of here, kinda ironic.

No, mean cash in a jar burried next to a tree 10 paces from a rock. That’s seems like the level you’re on.

Right now I am seriously considering a move to Eastern Europe (specifically looking at Poland and Czech Republic) if the U.S. starts to collapse. I am hoping that doesn't happen and I can stay in the U.S. but I want to be prepared just in case. I plan to stay here in the U.S. as long as my parents are alive (so probably another 10 to 20 years assuming the U.S. stays stable), but after they are gone there will honestly be very little to keep me here.
