Most to go to Dallas in expansion

Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers is moving the bulk of its administrative functions to Dallas to expand the company, while Baton Rouge will become a regional office.

Meanwhile, Craig Silvey, the company’s vice president, said he will leave the company to form his own private business.

Jamie Griffin, Raising Cane’s senior manager of business development, said Monday that beginning in the first quarter of 2009, the fast-food chain’s marketing, human resources, accounting-finance, development and operations management divisions will begin relocating to Dallas.

Pretty sad considering this company owes its beginnings to LSU...

How so?

And why do you care where they move?

I am not trying to do the German thing, but I linked the discussion from the food board if you want to see the debate about it. There was also a lengthy one on the OT.

Actually the company owes it's beginning to Auburn. They are a copy cat of Guthries. Cane's still has a long way to go in using the Guthrie's formula. Zaxbys, another Guthries copy cat, already has over 400 locations. I'm sure being in Dallas improves the applicant pool for hiring management and probably gives you better access to suppliers for a growing chain. Don't hate on the success, Baton Rouge still has a lot of growing up to do before it will be able to keep it's best and brightest hanging around.

Yes, and they got chicken out of it.

That stinks, and I can relate since I now live in Texas and moved here because I was tired of commuting between New Orleans and Dallas when I was on a project there.

But why hold this against him. He is doing what is in the company's best interest. The employees will be free to decide if they want to move to Dallas or stay in BR and find a new job. Is the economy in BR so bad that they can't find a new job there?

I genuinely have no idea why Dallas is so popular and wealthy. Seriously, what is so great about Dallas that makes it into such a financial powerhouse?

See the last entry...Brinker. add Pizza Hut, Cici's Pizza, Chuckie Cheese, etc. Lots of players in the food industry.

Also, there are a ton of companies that aren't listed that have their North American headquarters in DFW, but not their international HQ.

My point is the same can be said about every other business that exists in Baton Rouge. Will anyone notice if some Vietnamese tailor moves his business to Dallas because it is his best opportunity to grow his business?

I am sure the owner of Canes tried his best to keep the HQ in BR, but maybe it was determined that he couldn't grow his business if he did that.

I feel bad for anyone forced to move to maintain their job. I hope the business climate in BR is such that these people can find employment in BR if they decide to stay.

That is the key. However, he might be influenced by misguided information. A quote from the Dallas paper “The move “gives our company and brand an opportunity to grow,” said Mr. Dover, who quit as
president and chief executive of the parent of Bennigan’s Grill & Tavern weeks before it went bankrupt”. We may never see the entire picture that was presented to Canes, it could have been one sided. Besides Mr Dover lives in that area. Sure cuts down on his commute.

I think you have Auburn, AL confused with Athens, GA.

Nice climate, good public schools, central geographic location, one huge international airport plus another smaller but busy airport, all major sport franchises, no state income tax, affordable housing, etc.

Generally, it is a nice place to raise a family. It is very bland, and you are left scratching your head for things to do when you have people visit you from out of town, but the quality of life is pretty good.

No I don't. I ran across a Guthrie's in Montgomery on one of my BR to ATL trips once and the sauce was just like Cane's and Zaxby's so I had to go online and figure out why everyone had the same "special" sauce.

"Well, you just repeated my question. All these companies are based in Dallas. How come?"

ONE WORD and ONE WORD ONLY---it has an "AIRPORT". Baton Rouge has a 3rd world airport and the state hasn't given New Orleans Airport any support to expand. This is why companies continually leave Louisiana.

3rd world airport in baton rouge? have you been to lake charles since rita? it's a freaking pop up tent - and for a while the FAA didn't think it needed to be replaced.

I thought Zaxby's in Athens, GA came before Guthrie's.....

Canes is better than Zaxby's in my opinion. Although, Zaxby's has a better menu selection.
