What should be the target price for a 2018 Sequoia Platinum? I am getting offers at $62,700 and am wondering if that’s competitive. This purchase will likely be made in Virginia.

I’ve already read the Will Cover method....

Vehicles are outrageous these days.
Not including the insurance and Tag.

Platinum? That sounds about right. We looked at a limited and thank god that thing couldn’t fit in our garage or my wife would be driiving one. Not that they’re bad but it would have been about 57 or 58 if I remember. They do not come off price too much for Toyota’s in the Houston area.

Vehicle prices are outrageous because of the Obama EPA standards. Give it 5 years and prices will come down.

The dealership I buy from most of the time has 2, one with a MSRP of 70K for 62K, and one with a MSRP of 69 for 61. $62K is probably about as good as you will get.

Check the real pricing and sales data with James Bragg at fightingchance.com before you do anything else. It will change the way you view the process in terms of information asymmetry, pricing information and sales data.

Most of what passes for advice here is just sweating details while ultimately accepting the dealer's terms.

Holy shite isnt that into GX territory?

Edit: It is! Are you needing a third row? Have you considered an RX450hL or 350L?

Isn’t the GX Smaller than the LX? The land cruiser was too small for what we wanted.

Test drove the Infiniti QX80 and luckily my wife hated how it drove

Yes the cross over to full size SUV for Lexus goes NX -> RX -> GX -> LX.

I have sat in the RX450hL and it seems huge for me.

But Sequoias are land yachts

I ordered the Sequoia fighting chance package 2 years ago. Tons of info. I would recommend it when spending that much on a vehicle just for negotiation leverage.

Got a dealership to get down to $60,613 which includes free oil changes at their dealership for life.

I don’t think I’m going to get a sweeter deal than this

because I think you might be trolling

The GX is a Land Cruiser Prado for the U.S. market. It shares many components and is roughly equivalent to a U.S. market Toyota 4Runner in dimensions.

The LX is the Lexus "full on" Land Cruiser. The Sequoia is a U.S. product, based on the Toyota Tundra pickup.

Now, again, using 2018 numbers, the powerplants are identical for the Land Cruiser and Sequoia (and Tundra, for that matter) at 5.7L. Both are available with 8 seats. The LC has a slight edge in front legroom (about half an inch). The Sequoia has almost 7 inches more "back" legroom (presumably the second row seating). The LC has more towing capacity and the Sequoia has more cargo room and (slightly) more payload capacity.

Overall, Sequoia is about a foot longer (overall and wheelbase) ( ), 2 inches wider, and 3 inches taller.

If you don't want/need the overland capabilities of the LC, I would get the Sequoia (2WD) for a family hauler, just for overall carrying capacity, more "passenger" friendly and more cost effective.

I swear I’m not trolling. Cargo is very important but where it was too small was the 2nd row of the Land Cruiser vs Captains Chairs in the Sequoia. I could not sit in the front seat and have the car seat behind me. There is more than ample room in the Sequoia on either side.

One must admit that someone claiming a Land Cruiser is "too small" for a passenger application could easily be mistaken for trolling.

And effectively, they're very comparable.

Clearly, the Sequoia has more backseat room - the Tundra (itself a pickup) Crewcab models can rightly be described as cavernous.

I had car seats for twins in the back of a coupe. Where there is a will, there is a way. So, while I don't doubt there is more room behind the seat in a Sequoia, even if you're over 6' I don't believe a car seat will not fit behind you in a Land Cruiser.

How do you know, really? You're just taking whatever the dealer tells you. Sequoias are very expensive to floorplan and keep around the dealer for sale. How do you know how desperate the dealer is to sell it? Selling a Sequoia is a big deal and a much bigger expense for any dealer versus most other Toyotas, so don't act like you're doing then a favor buying it from them, I'd squeeze a little harder.

If it's been in their inventory 30 days, they'll be happy go below "invoice" (which is a total fabrication), approaching 60 days inventory, they'll come off thousands just to be rid of it.

What are the Sequoia's quarterly and YTD sales figures, both regionally and nationally? All these factors go into the dealer's pricing decision, shouldn't they go into your response too? Fighting chance will give you all this data and save you many thousands more off than you think you're getting now.

James Bragg saved me $4,000+ off the dealer's "best" offer on a Sequoia, so I recommend his report highly. Call his number on the website and sometimes he answers himself. We talked for about 30 minutes and it was enlightening.

I’m telling you my wife and I were shocked, my wife was even a bit peeved. Now we could always go the easy route and just buy another car seat but at 6’3” it was not possible and even the sales guys agreed we should go with a sequoia.

We expected the Land Crusier to have more room in the back due to the fact it’s what diplomats typically travel in abroad.

As to the deal. The problem is here no one keeps them on the lot. We’ve been to 6 dealerships and only one has had the model onsite and they were absolutely unwilling to budge and wanted 4K more than everyone else.

I’ll buy the report in the AM but because of them having to get it from other dealerships I’m not expecting it to do me any good.

I'm a cheap motherfricker

The inlaws just bought a monster Lexus. I guess they must have gotten the Landcruiser version.

They are now expecting grandchildren (the 1st, ours in on the way) to fill it.

I would say that is a a pretty good deal (whenever a $60K vehicle is a good deal) on a vehicle that will last you till the kids go to college.
