Platinum Amex vs Gold Amex

Just trying to decide if it's worth the difference

only worth it if you dont have status with an airline. I had both and the amex plat was no additional benefit to me

I have gold and feel like I get my money’s worth. I struggle with the platinum price though and never thought I could justify it.

I have both. Use the Platinum for travel and the Gold for supermarkets/eating out. They each have benefits, that if used, will recoup the annual fee. There are two new AMEX cards coming out in 2020 - Titanium and a different black charge card. Not much is known about either yet. Premium CC's are picked to align on your specific lifestyle, rather than general return points.

Gold is for every day spending on food.
Platinum is for travel, perks, lounge access, etc.
Only morons use their Platinums for every day spend after they get done with the sign up bonus.
If you need a daily driver get the Gold. 4x in groceries and dining out RACKS UP if you have a family. Stack it with the Blue Business Plus or Everyday Preferred depending on your spending habits.
I have both. Trust me.

I have gold and it’s plenty enough. The great thing about Amex is they will refund any charge you dispute and never ask questions. Not saying I take advantage of it, but it’s nice to have a company take care of things when your paying for their services.
I usually get around $500 with of free money using the points I accrue to credit purchases

I forgot to mention in my first post - if you have the Platinum Card you can add an additional Gold Card member with no additional annual fee.
Either way - if you do decide to go the AMEX route, make sure you search welcome bonus offers (both in normal browser and in incognito mode). The default welcome bonus offer is 60k points, but you can easily get 75k if you try, and 100k if you're lucky.

I've been using a gold for a few months, but they keep asking me to go to a platinum.
Full disclosure, I have my regular purchases, but I farm about 2,000 a month at work.

I’d bet with their customer service, they would just give it to you if you called and said you heard it was a promotional offer

Idk.
We are currently in a discussion because I used a shite ton of points for a presidential suite at the omni and ended up with a double room

Their customer service is next level. I switched from platinum to Chase SapphireReserve because I got points hungry and it’s been a shitty experience. AMEX is much better and I can’t wait to go back.

Platinum seems to have more on travel benefits and the gold has more on home benefits.
My company pays for all travel, so wife and I went with gold. We like it.
Eta: “wife”, not “wide” , bad Freudian slip!

Plat if you travel and Gold if you don’t.
The Plat fee isn’t bad after the benefits... 200 in Airline, 100 at Saks, and 200 in Uber. So the annual fee is really only $50 and you can drink that away in one Centurion lounge.
The thing that would put the plat over the top would be if they did the 35% discount on travel redemption like the biz platinum does. This would put it over the top of the Sapphire Reserve.

Platinum if you travel a ton. Otherwise Gold has better rewards points for grocery, dining, etc. and less annual fee of course.

Although not specific to either product, I use the shite out of amex offers and save more than my platinum card annual fee

Gold
Platinum is good only if you travel enough.
