I’m reluctant to buy gold because of the great reset. You might end up with something that has zero value and can’t be converted to a new currency if the reset goes that far.
Can you think of a time in the last 1,000 years when the value of Gold was zero?

The Washington Post has a long article about how the “Gold IRA” folks use right wing media spots on Hannity, Glenn Beck, Trump rallies, etc. to scare old farts about how Dims will wreck the economy and steal their retirement.
They sell them gold with a huge commission like 30%+. Several of the gullible idiots have sued or gone to arbitration after they realized that the commercials filled with patriotic fervor and flags were scams. Some of the conservative celebs make millions a year for pitching these companies. Sad.

I’ve got several safe deposit boxes
I got into coin collecting as a kid before the slabbing so the grade was sort of a best guess by the dealer. I show my kids my binders with coins and can’t understand why they don’t see the attraction.
Anyway, related to safe deposit boxes, when one of my parents passed away, the boxes had to be opened and inventoried in front of a lawyer. That cost thousands of dollars in taxes. The surviving parent told me that I have been given access to the boxes and to stop at the bank before heading to the hospital and take steps to minimize the tax burden.

Even if personal possession of gold was outlawed (which sounds like something government lovers would do), there would be a black market.

You’re correct, …. and it already exists.

You missed the point, I’ll concede that in the last 1000 years gold has maintained value because it backed currency. If the governments decide to abandon their currencies and switch to a digital system, does gold maintain its value? If the government resets private ownership and refuses to recognize gold, how do you convert gold when you want to sell it?

Didn't we leave the gold backed paper currency system like 40 or 50 years ago?
Gold is valuable for many reasons beyond association with paper currency. Gold being worth a decent value is a bet I am willing to take.

Sounds like they carry a wide inventory on the Volunteer site …. it seems odd that you have to call them in order to get their pricing though. How do their Premiums compare to other online dealers for pricing? I might give them a try soon…. spot price is looking attractive again.
It’s at $1937 now …. and I believe we’ll see $1870 in the near term … my next buy target is $1890, assuming premiums remain acceptable. Major support is at $1820.
All the big online dealers were offering their clients discounted premiums on a wide variety of gold/silver …. Many premiums were discount 30+% ,,,… that’s how I knew that Spot would get whacked soon …. the dealers always know'

Thought some of you might find this story to be interesting. I’m not into precious metals, but this is a pretty amazing story from the Civil War era.

There are more than a few missing army payrolls (gold coins in the early years)
It will be interesting to learn the dates on these. They will likely display the Kentucky Gold Hoard at this year’s Money Show … and it’s a big draw for historians and collectors.
The Saddle Ridge Hoard in Northern California was similarly displayed at the Money Show when it was held in Atlanta in 2015, I think… and it was packed every day. A real piece of history
Fascinating story, thanks for sharing….

I just don’t understand why the go to “shite actually hits the fan” hedge is gold. Commodities (in a general sense) with a practical use would be far better solutions.

I didn't fully understand either for awhile
