Each should invest according to their own conviction. I'm of the opinion that PoW is facing an almost existential crisis until the market sorts out the security tradeoffs b/w PoW and PoS and what it really needs from a the perspective of actual utility.

I’m of the opinion that the crash we are seeing is pretty natural and the eco shite is just that: shite. If it wasn’t eco fud it would be something else.
Elon will come out in 3 years and say ok btc gets most of its mining off renewables everyone it’s good again ;)))))

I put money in when BTC dipped below 10k a few years ago and felt like a shite play for years. I just put more in so I expect at least a year or two before we ever see 40k again now

Definitely among the possibilities.
The electrical utility buyer of last resort argument isn't a terrible one, but you can always says if coin B can provide the exact same properties as coin A but with lower power consumption then eventually the market would move towards coin B.
This argument assumes of course the BTC core devs stand by the original principles and refuse to change anything to make the protocol more energy efficient.
Ultimately, I just don't see the energy efficiency narrative going away easily, but I could certainly be wrong.
