but after you establish credit, they will refuse to raise your limit making continued use of their products impractical. i've had one of their cards since college, and they just cancelled since i didn't use the card.

all of this. my first card was a Cap1 with $2000 limit. I now have 3 other cards all with $25k limits...and Cap1 has me at $10,500 when i bitched and complained they were like "you just need to open a new card with us and your limit will be much higher" I was like nah thats gay so I just use it to pay electricity and shite now

I've got two $20ks and a $25k with them. Not sure why they're giving you so much trouble.

the internet is replete with similar stories. if you start out low with them, there's not much room to go upward. they'd rather people open new cards then raises existing card limits up to spec

That's probably it, then. I started out with a $3,000 card with them years and years ago. I believe it got up to $6,000, but I had long since quit using it and opened a Quicksilver, a Venture, then a Savor (20K, 20k and 25k, respectively). I've been extremely pleased with them, though.

Open an account with Credit Karma. They will give you a good spread of cards and likelihood of getting them. The worked for me.

I just closed on a house, so i'll be spending some money on renovations and items for the house. Other than that i eat out frequently, like to travel when i can (i don't travel for work much)

How does this card look with the promotion?

I've had a Cap One card since 2003. I think it started at like 2K and is now at 9K. Some of those increases came without me asking. other times, I have asked and they bump it up like 500. LOL.

Meanwhile, the Chase card I have since 2015 is at 22K and the BoA card I have had since 2012 is at 25K.

Why would you have three cards with them, instead of one card with a 65K limit? Security reasons?

Started out with the Quicksilver when the Venture wouldn’t have made sense (and I wasn’t even sure if I’d qualify for it). Eventually, the travel benefit made more sense, hence the Venture. Then they came out with the Savor and with as much eating out as we do, it has nearly doubled my rewards earnings. I do still use each one for different purchase types.

Closing a card (especially the older one) would have a negative impact on credit score/history, so I just keep it open and locked away. That said, I did ask once about combining the credit lines and that seemed to be nearly impossible from what they told me. That’s been the only downside with them.

Not always. I closed 4 last month and my score didn’t move at all.

If you can somehow get on with Navy Federal they have an excellent card. If you're a beginner capital one. If high credit score look for something better.

That would be highly unusual, particularly for an old card. It’s more likely that the closed accounts haven’t hit your report yet (I have a new one I opened over a month ago that just reported yesterday). You literally just reduced your total available credit, so it’s nearly impossible that it had no impact; the exception being if you perhaps carried a balance on those and closed them after paying the balances off. Still, there would be some fluctuation.

My old capital one card closed and it seemed to have minimal effect (although i'm not checking scores daily). but the limit, compared to my total available credit, was insignificant. card was rewards card that predated quicksilver, venture, etc. they converted it to a quicksilver but refused to ever raise my limit, despite income being many factors higher than it was when last limit increase was given.

I've said it on here before, but I think the Uber Visa card is one of the best free cards out there, especially for someone's first or one of their early cards.

4% cash back on restaurant, take out, & bars
3% cash back on hotel & airfare
2% back on online purchases - including Uber & streaming services as well
1% back on everything else

Plus $600 insurance on mobile phone if bought on the card. $50 credit for online subscription services. No foreign transaction fees.

I've loved the card.

I've tried to find out where to apply for this card for the past few days. Ubers website says you can only do it from the app and the application is not where they say it is or anywhere else in the app.

After being told the same thing 3 times from uber support they finally told me they know about the issue. I've found reddit post since april with other people having the same issue. I don't think you can get this card anymore
