Guys any suggestions for metal building home builders in the Lafayette area? I'm looking to build on a 2 or more acre lot in the future. Also as a bonus could you tell me the average cost to build a metal building home that is between 2000-2500 square feet? I'm talking average as I know adding certain features will affect the price. Thanks in advance for any advice/insight.

Have you secured financing? A lot of banks won’t give loans for metal barn homes.

They are versatile, often take half the time to build and are very weather resistant not to mention efficient. I also like the fact that many have a very open floor plan. You can also add common exterior such as brick if you like.

I have not sourced out a loan yet. Should not be an issue when I do.

Factor steel building. I had a 12x24 with slab foundation for 6k. I recommend them because they did a great job and it's a beautiful building. I think the 20x20 was 7500$ so prepare to spend about 20k

Most banks won’t give a conventional loan on one of these. Look into it before you proceed further

Having asked around lenders in lafayette already, I haven't found anyone offering anything other than 20 year with 20% down

Also most of those lenders acted weird about putting the homeowners insurance in escrow because the insurers have no idea how to insure these things and therefore what to charge

Can someone explain why?

Would a metal building that looks more like a house vs a barn have the same issues?

as a mortgage lender i will tell you that is not as easy as you think it is. In 15yrs i have never done a metal building for a house. Lots have tried. The biggest issue is comps. i would reach out to your local lender before you get to far in this process.

Thanks for the advice. I will be sure to do more research as I have not started anything yet nor do I intend to do so in the near future. Just starting to look into this.

Check with Abbeville Building and Loan. When I built 8 years ago, they said that they do metal building homes as well.
