Marathon has been on a steady climb over the last few months. I figure they will start reaping some benefits and profit from the massive expansion in Garyville, La. that was completed last year.

I'm guessing you missed the spin off of MRO's downstream business back in January? LINK

I certainly missed that. Any idea why the MRO stock would climb after that, as opposed to go down? The way I see it is that after a spin off, shares would go down. Is my logic off? (Very new to this). Thx

The refining business is very low margin so spinning it off allows MRO to focus on higher margin E&P activities and gives them greater leverage to hydrocarbon prices. Timed it rather well w/ the diverengence of prices we are seeing at present in WTI and Brent front months. Accretive as well.

Makes perfect sense.

Thanks again.

this has more to do with them spinning off the refining and marketing operations than anything related to garyville.
