Fire my advisor. If you are an advisor what are your other options ? Gonna be a lot of upset people with their retirement account balances this year and probably next year. Started in Jan She says. That's when i started to feel it

Unsurprisingly, an average person doesn’t understand risk and standard deviations around an average return. This is really where FAs earn their keep because Main Street can irreparably harm their portfolios based on emotion.

If you plan to retire in less than 5 years and your advisor had been dumping your money into medium/long-term bonds with non-existent yields then you probably should fire them.

It’s crazy when you see that the 2025 target retirement funds are performing as poorly as the S&P.

Financial advisors are there for one thing YOUR MONEY. They don’t give a shite how much you lose as long as they get their income from you.

If you can’t afford to “lose” $100 then you’ll never make $1k.
If you can’t afford to “lose” $1k then you’ll never make $10k.
If you can’t afford to “lose” $10k then you’ll never make $100k.
If you can’t afford to “lose” $100k then you’ll never make $1m.

They only get your money if they provide value. When they don’t provide value, they lose business.

I never understood the want for a FM, historically and statically, they don't beat INDEX averages.

Do your own investing in ETF's of your liking, dollar cost average and be smart where you invest.

They get paid regardless of performance. That's how AUM works. Your second statement is true.

How long you been in the industry?

In other words, many are selling today instead of holding or buying. Not a good move even though this Down cycle is not likely done.

I talked to a neighbor who is a financial advisor.

He tells his clients the same thing you tell your wife:

Calm Down.

So much went wrong with target date funds - the old 60/40 portfolio type methodology is out the window right now.

I feel bad for those that are not emotionally prepared for the roller coaster downward spiral that we are on at the moment.

It will separate those with intestinal fortitude from those without.

I agree, but people aren’t forced to invest with a FA. If someone does, clearly they saw some value in it.

I think the common person out there has not real idea about that amount of ent and the issues the Federal Reaerve faces these days.

The fed is in a lose - lose situation. We are out of places to hide right now!!

Good. Bring the pain! Hope every fricker with a 401K and/or not on welfare learns never to vote Democrat EVER AGAIN! And teach your children and grandchildren the same.

Only way people will learn. Hit em in the pocketbook.

This was my point. Lady practically blamed the Financial Advisor for the 20% drop in retirement account.

I’m up over 12% for the year.

How could you not see this coming. I’m not sure how it’s smart to keep your money in the market when you see inflation coming. The Fed has no choice but to raise rates and we all know what the outcome of that will be. You can’t just print trillions and not expect consequences. Even an idiot like me knows that.
