bought LTC in 30-50s because I actually believe in charlie lee and what he is trying to accomplish.

Silver to Bitcoin's gold is the motto. He wants LTC to be the small day-to-day transactions. It is faster and cheaper and can be swapped with BTC (or will be) and others.

Lee isn't hiding behind some fictitious character or acting on behalf of some other large entity (or so I think). He tells it like it is...good, bad, and ugly. Dude never gets too excited or negative as the markets fluctuate. He also questions other cryptos publicly for honest dialog. Seems to be an honest developer in a market full of bullshite. my $.02

I don't think you understand that bitcoin is divisible down to the a satoshi which is 8 decimal places.

1 satoshi = 0.00000001 BTC

Unless you are saying that all of the noob investors don't understand this...

I still don't buy that the tangle's method of verification is secure enough.

Everything I do is in coinbase but I'd like to get into some iota. What exchange is the best for a layman? I've heard of poloniex and binance but don't know anything about either

I used binance for iota. Youll have to buy ethereum or Bitcoin to use to buy iota and then transfer it over to binance where you'll make the exchange. Buy the BTC from gdax though if you can--the fees are lower.

You aren't going to buy a couple of anything with a couple hundred bucks.

iota is frustrating the hell out of me but I see people wanting to get in all the time. I think I may just hodl and forget about what I have at this point.

But I took some BTC/ETH from coinbase, transferred to GDAX, then exchanged for iota in Binance.

Yes, you can start at $1.

Why not just transfer your BTC/ETH directly to Binance? Why the GDAX middleman?

Not a flame, honestly curious in case I'm missing something.

From what I understand, and I am learning as I go, is that there was a larger fee for the direct transfer, but because GDAX and coinbase are partnered, I wouldn't have to pay as much.
