Know anyone who ironed clothes from home as a business?

How did they do? Do the pros outweigh the cons?

Just ironed? Or washed and ironed?
When I was in Katy, I had a place that washed, starched, and pressed my dress shirts for 99 cents each. It had a drive through, was open at 7 am, gave me a bag to collect my shirts in, closed at 7 pm, and if I dropped them off at 8 am, they would be ready at 5:30 pm. In addition, they offered pick up and would bring them back to you within 24 hours and would charge your card automatically.
I can't find any place in NOLA that charges less than 2.25 a shirt, and it takes 2-3 days easy to get them back. Plus, their hours are generally terrible.
If someone could do a decent job, there is a market here. I HATE HATE HATE washing and ironing my shirts, but I'm not paying $15 bucks a week.

Sounds like a lot of work for a little money to me.

I used a lady in my apartment complex years ago for all my laundry. I'd leave a bag of clothes outside my door one morning a week, she'd pick it up, wash all the clothes, iron ones that needed it, fold others, and brought them back that evening. She charged $20 per week, and it was the best $20 I've ever spent in my life.
No idea how well she did. I know she also did 2 others in my building. She drove a nice Mercedes, but she was divorced so may have gotten it in the divorce. I don't know. She was kind of crazy so I avoided talking to her as much as I could.

Yeah NOLA is insane with that stuff. I moved to an apartment without a washer/dryer and looked into it. I do think it's funny I can gamble (I mean game) at the place where the laundry machines are.

Dunno but the going rate out in the country around me is $1/piece.

Thanks for the clarification, cause you know, gambling is against the state constitution!!

Where dis?
I'm up in The Woodlands, but work out towards Katy several days a week. My schedule allows me some flexibility to run errands. I'd make a short drive while on that side of town. I can certainly spare 5-15 bucks a week to have freshly pressed clothes set for a 5 day work week.

I moved in Jan 2012 back to NOLA. But the place was on the corner of Fry and Morton. I cannot remember the name, but it was on the SE Corner of the intersection - right behind the Jack in the Box, and a Randalls in the strip shopping center... this place is a stand alone building with a drive-thru.
EDIT: Google Maps says it is Signature Dry Cleaners, which sounds familiar. I think it had a red sign on the building.

I think when dis? would be a more appropriate question. 15-20 years ago I had a spot like this outside of Houston too. Everybody did.

I have a Rowena steam system iron that is probably the fastest iron this side of a commercial unit. At a dollar a shirt I'd be lucky to break minimum wage.
Now if I cold charge $10/shirt...

Kid of off topic. Anyone use a steam press or trouser press. I'd love something like that if it actually worked. I'm anal about ironing. Love a non iron shirt that actually works because if I whip out an iron, it takes forever (because I'm not picky)

Try laundromats that have a full time attendant.
