I’m not trying to be a richard, but when people ask questions like that on here, I’ve always asked the same questions: is this a trade or is it an investment? If it’s an investment (or a trade), what’s your profit target? What’s your max loss threshold? What did you base your purchase decision on? What fundamental changes would make you exit?

If you bought this, or any stock, on a hunch or a lark, you may not have thought about those things. But in my experience (and I’ve had my share of losers over the years), it’s much better to think about it before you pull the trigger. Otherwise you become one of these guys who says, “I’m down 40%... what do you guys think I should do???” Don’t be that guy.

But...

So far so good if you're going short term.

Price is at $404 right now.

Disagree 100%, Tesla had an advantage in being first-to-market, that disappears in 2020 when the big boys really enter the game.
In fairness, people have been saying this new EV and that new EV will be the Tesla killer probably since 2014 or 2015. None have come close.

Tesla is about to be trying to market a several year old design up against the brand new offerings of Porsche, MB, and BMW.
A lot has changed in just the month or so since this post was made. Porsche Taycan is getting some serious bad pub for how shitty their range is. The 2009 old Tesla Roadster has better range than the 201 taycan Turbo S. I believe Mercedes pulled their EV or postponed it for a year or 2, or something right? Basically they see how bad the other Tesla Killers from Audi and Jaguar have performed, and they realize now is not the time to try to compete with Tesla.

ETA: Just read that VW has postponed the ID.3 due to a massive software problem. Seems like people think these EVs will just come into the market and immediately be good enough to compete. What has been happening in recent years seems to suggest otherwise.

For example the Taycan will be a bit stiffer competition than the Prius and Volt.
If so, it'll be based on brand loyalty to Porsche and certainly not a better car. Their specs on their car vs the price don't com close to a Model S offering.

You bought high. Usually around the current price it falls back in the 250 range. I'm buying puts this week on it.

I just want to add that I was totally wrong here. It's has a nice climb and I bought some stock early this week for a nice gain. But I'm watching for it to pull back.

You're up over a hundred a share, I'd say no.

I couldn’t imagine buying 1 share of stock for almost 400 dollars, there’s much better ways to waste money.

Their supercharger network is a pretty big deal.

I think it's the biggest advantage they have

I do think if they got into a pinch they could sell that charging port tech to other EV makers but I don't see them needing to do that

Think about what you just said, a poor person would never have the money to invest in a 400 dollar stock, it’s a complete barrier to entry. You would already have to have money to even consider buying Tesla stock.

I bought Tesla 3 years ago solely because I wanted to support a futuristic company and I liked their story.

If priced as a futuristic company like Google, it's still cheap. If priced as an auto company, it's way over-priced.

Y’all are buffoons, poor people aren’t interested in stocks because all their money goes to shelter and food. It doesn’t matter if it’s 2 dollars or 2,000, they have no disposable income. You’re whole premise is flawed.

At first you said $400 was a barrier to entry to poor people. Now you’re saying any price is a barrier to entry to poor people. Did you come in here to make the point that poor people can’t buy stocks?

LMAO why wouldn't they want short sellers if the stocks worth more than it is now? You'll have to explain...
