Just have to decide when to lock in profits from the short position and load up on stocks at a cheaper prices.

You gotta do what you gotta do to make money but I wouldn’t call having to short stocks “fun” because it costs a lot of regular people money.
I much prefer a bull market where everyone makes gains. That’s fun

Look at the 12 month return from the SPY or DJIA...I'm doing just fine.
I love with the market takes a little downturn and the loonies escape from the asylum for a while. This happens every so often and y'all never last.
