I really like the idea of solar, but there isn't really anything incentivizing for people to convert. And government subsidies are not long term viable. The product should be able to stand on its own and it can't at the moment.
The solar cons are:
1 - Aesthetics. A lot of people don't like the looks
2 - Holes in your roof or additional room for the solar farm.
3a - Economics - without subsidies, it takes 10 to 15 years for solar to pay for themselves. There are diminishing returns over the life of the solar panels. I can't find any source that scientifically and unbiased-ly demonstrates the long term panel life span. It could be meaningful, or maybe not. But given I can't find the information when I look for it, makes me think it's not favorable.
3b - Electrical Municipalities aren't interested in offering incentives for back-feeding the grid. You're strictly limited to using the electricity for the time it is producing, A battery bank is just more expense in the conversion and also isn't attractive either.
If any of these items could be addressed, it would add appeal to solar. But who is responsible for addressing these?

I’m in OSCR and HIMS straddling both, and I think ZETA (and PLTR) are good proxies.

Others…asphalt shingles, gypsum wallboard, plastic flooring, etc. I was a contractor for 20 years and the waste is hard to describe. Demolition waste for renovation (renovation was a great deal of what we did) was eye watering. We build shite today with lifespans that are marked in years.

I'm not talking about a major conversion. I think there's a lot of money in small things though. Solar panels on a roof of commercial buildings or other places that have vast roof space but not used. The future is not a major conversion away from fossil fuels, but a reduction in what needs them due to the ability to use lower volts and watts due to major increases in efficiencies which then allow something to be ran by a lithium battery that's charged by solar.
Solar + battery for charging and maintaining equipment off the grid, like rural construction.
I also think there's a major growth in battery powered scooters and motorcycles. Not just in major metro's where they are used a lot already, but in smaller metros also. If you have good weather, a personal scooter or electric bike is incredibly efficient means of transportation with extremely small storage.
I'm not big greenie, I'm just talking about things I've seen between kids riding electric bikes around the neighborhoods and visiting NYC, Paris, etc and seeing all the scooters used.

Unused roof space is low hanging fruit, there should be panels on every commercial roof surface
