Still driving my 2012 Hyundai Sonata that I purchased in September 2011. Roughly 138k miles. Just spent about $1800 in tuneups and new A/C compressor hoping to last me another 2-3 years.
I agree with the poster that said a vehicle is mostly to get you from Point A to Point B safely. But I would be lying to you if I said I wasn’t looking forward to a new Hyundai Palisade in 2-3 years. This will only be my second “new” car purchase (my first car was used going into college) in my lifetime at the age of 40. It will be a nice gift to myself after 15 years of driving the same vehicle.

Wife's car gets paid off in December, mine in 2.5 years. She wants a bigger vehicle but I'm going to try and talk her into keeping the 300 and i drive her Dart to work everyday.

Cash flow bump and will change your behavior. We haven't had a car payment in 9 years.

Good for you!
Don’t laugh, but the best years of my life almost in terms of automobiles was when I had a Leaf for four years. Literally spent $30 on a tire repair. We never saw much in terms of electricity cost. We just plugged in the wall, and it just went.
I have a 2019 Acura RDX which I love, but it only gets about 27 miles to the gallon.
If you want to save money and don’t care how you look, consider electrical vehicles.

100% this. I know some people are proud to drive a 20 year old 4 runner, but it's not for everyone and the difference in the interior cabin (eg. quality and tech) between a new, modern vehicle and something even 10 years old is significant.

I agree with this whole thread. We actually bought my wife a brand new vehicle and the car note makes me sick. Then last year someone ran a red light and hit her. Thankfully my wife wasn’t injured but there were no witness or cameras to catch the accident so police called it a no fault. vehicle took a major dent in value and no diminished value claim to help offset either.

You should have gotten a C8. One life to live and you can’t put a price on happiness.

Thanks. I absolutely love my Camry. It's loaded out with everything I need and I'm just floored I actually don't have a note.
The ride is smooth. I really found a hidden gem with this car.
Buying low mileage vehicles from elderly is always a best practice.
This Camry could last me 500,000 miles as long as it's serviced regularly.
I went through and put in a new battery. Going to replace tires soon just because.

I'm 29 and have several vehicles all of which I've paid cash for, have always done so.
My "daily driver" that sees the vast majority of my work mileage is a 1997 Toyota Camry that I paid $2500 for in December 2020. I'm making money on mileage by driving something that cheap.
Insurance is like $20 a month, tags are like $10 a year.

I think the OP was/is looking for more of a daily driver. I say this as a long time car guy (OK, addict

I think that he’s made a wise decision by buying a reliable daily driver for now. And if the track bug ever bites him, then he can grab something that suits that need.

I got a 2018 Camry XLE with 8,000 miles that will likely last me until Jesus comes.
Where did you find a 5 year old car with 8,000 miles?
Great find! But for your safety…consider that those tires are probably original equipment and likely made 5-6 years ago. Which means they may need to be replaced soon just due to age even though they surely have good tread.
Just a tip since you commute 70 miles Don’t want to see you on the side of the road. On the bright side, tires for standard wheels on Camrys are affordable.

I only drive my truck around town and fill up every couple of weeks. I go to the airport once a week but that’s the longest trip.
If I have to start commuting, I’d seriously look at a stripped down Jetta or Camry. Maybe even one of those hybrid Corollas if their used prices come down by then.

What are you going to do the next time you need to get mulch from Lowe's?

I should probably do the same thing and get an older truck. I have a 3 year old diesel sitting in my yard that I put 20,000 miles since I got it.
I still need a truck to pull our camper, but I can't swap it out since my credit is wrecked since Ida

I agree and am on board with the same plan.
I do wonder sometimes whether we're really the idiots though. They may have the last laugh when the Dems forgive their debts and means test and reduce our SS and seize our retirement funds "for the greater good"
