And no, I don't want a religious war on the MT, just curious if anyone else does?

its a great racket if you ask me. Give us 10% of your gross income or you go to hell!

Yes, but nowhere near 10%. Just the minimum to get the Catholic school in parish tuition discount.

I guess it's still arguably a better bargain than, give us 38% or you go to jail.

I give more than 10% of my gross income to church and charity. During the holidays nobody in my family buys each other anything, we make donations to the family members charity of choice. Not for everyone but we have more than enough "stuff" as it is. Giving to other people gives me much more satisfaction than a new Ipod or other gadget.

Obviously not for religious reasons, but my wife and I have "gift non-exchange" agreement in place with almost everyone important in our lives. I couldn't stand the waste of time, money and energy that was going annually into exchanging trinkets across long distances.

Yeah, especially when you add in the 6% Louisiana state income tax maximum marginal rate, not to mention a self-employed (like me) person's 14% federal self-employment tax effective rate (after the deduction adjustment) bringing my marginal tax rate on my self-employment income to 48%.
