Earned income tax credit
You mean welfare disguised in a tax return?
Thankfully we don't owe more this year and will actually be getting $1700 back. I can live with that.

I'm sole owner in my business. I have a salary, but most of my income comes from drawing from profits.
I just realized as I was getting my tax stuff together that the estimated tax checks I mailed every quarter were never deposited (well state was but not federal). Thankfully I don't ever spend any money and still have it, but I think I am about to have to write a 45k check
no wife and no kids

I’m concerned with what we will owe. It wouldn’t shock me if it’s $6-8K. Predicting taxes has become a shot in the dark. I’m guessing 25% chance we get a refund, 25% chance we are close to on the mark, and 50% chance we owe bigly.
Same.
I guess I’m too dumb to figure out the dual income withholding worksheet but I’ve done it multiple times and I still always owe a substantial portion.
We owe 4600 this year.

Dividends and interest account drive the gap for us. Guess we will need to bump up withholding to account for D&I not having any.

Got a small amount back last year so I was happy (paid someone to do it).
Tried to do my own taxes this year and I owe $1500. Made a little more this year but nothing else changed. I guess I’ll drop mine off to get done again by the same place.

I have to write a big check for $24,000 after meeting with my CPA this weekend. Does that count?

We lucked out. Owe federal $400 and getting back $700 with state.
Based on my income (commission), we were getting back almost $9k.
We rolled some traditional 401ks into Roth.
And we adjusted my wife's withholdings to be able to offset this and the calculus has been good the past 2 years (she was promoted to a full time employee about 3 years ago which opened up the change).

Somehow managed to overpay by 23k this year. We usually owe a little. I think I panicked and made big lump sum tax payment in Dec as a just in case. will get a 14k refund.

We used to get around $6,500 back for several years til the last kid aged out. But it wasn’t getting our own money back - it was y’all’s money .
EIC. My income is non-taxable and my wife is an ESL teacher at a school (not a “real” teacher), so she only made in the low 20s. So she’d get back all of the taxes she paid plus the earned income credit. I was dumbstruck the first year this happened. I couldn’t believe the government just hands you a check for thousands of dollars of other people’s money. Without dependents, this year we only got $1,750 back.

There seems to be irrational anger or looking down on those people. It’s their money. If it makes them happy then why should I rain on their parade.
Idc about the missed interest as much as I care about the people who seem to think refund = you won vs point = you lost. It’s irrational.
