How do you keep track of it all? (Personal Finance Apps)

Mint. Great App.

They are a product of Intuit.

Personal capital for me. Mint has completely neglected their investment section which kills it for me.

I've used the same cheapass method since February of 2012 but don't mind it at all. Every purchase I make I write down in the 'notes' on my phone. Then once every week or 10 days or so I log that in a spreadsheet on my comp. I can basically do anything an app will but it's free and I kind of enjoy it. Over time I've adjusted and fine tuned the spreadsheet to be what I want. I break my expenses down into a ton of different categories (and have categories for revenue as well, although obviously there aren't as many of those) and keep track by month, and in the final tab of the spreadhseet have a year end total (both cumulative and monthly average). I can tell you how much money I spent on gas in July in 2018 and 2012 by consulting the spreadsheet. Yes it's definitely old school and takes more effort btu I've never been a fan of linking a card to some of those services (or paying for any of them) and I like that I can make my system as specific and personal as I want.

Does Mint automatically link to your accounts?
Like do you log in to your banks via Mint and it automatically dl's all the transactions and register?

I had purchased Quicken years ago because it integrated with my bank and it automatically reconciled everything. They killed that feature 2 months into it.

I'm not sure I like 3d party apps having my bank login, but damn if it wasn't convenient.

Maybe I'll just go back to the spreadsheet.
