Up 30%... what is defined as a rally
Much of the headlines surrounding today’s rise is the assumption that AMC is being short squeezed. If this is the case we should see some GME type gains
quote:
Individual investors are showing a frothy interest in AMC as users on Reddit and Twitter push an #AMCSqueeze hashtag, and mentions of the stock overall are dominating the discussion among retail traders on Thursday. "We didn't wait this long for these puny numbers.. the concept you must understand : SHORTS MUST COVER, WE OWN THE FLOAT!" read one popular post on Reddit board r/amcstock. AMC's stock has responded popping more than 16% in early trading and then moving up again on news that the company had completed its previously announced 43 million share at-the-market equity offering, bringing in $438 million of fresh capital to the beleaguered theater chain.

This is not true. GME was shorted well over 100% of the float. That's not even close to being true on AMC.

I believe you, hence the lack of action on the price.
Both GME and AMC are about 20% short interest.

I thought you were referring to GME in January.

I find it a bit goofy that everyone has diamond hands yet nearly 300 million shares traded today.
Also, Adam Aron is to blame for the fact AMC can’t seem to squeeze anywhere close to what Reddit seems to think is possible. AMC finished their 43 million share offering today. Flooding the market with shares is good for business but makes a squeeze quite difficult.

Adam Aron
Gotta give it to the guy. He knows he needs to keep up the price to have any shot of paying off debt. I don’t recall if I’ve ever seen another CEO of a billion dollar company play the game so well. Bravo.

Quadruple witching round 3? Or 4? I’ve lost count of the “_____ is going to be the day” posts in this thread.

Do you have what's left of Granny's annual birthday check riding on puts like that other guy. or are you still here just to "educate" us about a stock that you have no interest in?

I’ve got no money on AMC long or short. I’m here because I enjoy talking about money matters. I’m here because the AMC situation, as I just mentioned above with Aron, is one of a kind and incredibly intriguing. Lastly, I’m here because I enjoy correcting lies and misleading comments about stocks, and there is no shortage of that from you and others.
Despite that, I’m rooting for the longs. I think it’s foolish to believe you’re going to make money off of the shorts here when things like yesterday’s volume leads me to believe this is mostly retail traders gambling to see who’s left with the bag, but making money is all that matters.
This saga has been incredibly entertaining. The idea that you have to own the stock to discuss and enjoy this is weird.

Almost 50% of the float is now shorted (47.8%). 150k SS available at 75% Something has to give here.

I think it’s foolish what Robinhood did to its investors in this saga and the CEO should be in jail.

Yeah the synthetic shares part of this, if true, is a grease fire. It’s not the stock, it’s the situation, applies. It’s what enticed me to take a position. I’ve risked what I’m comfortable losing.

This is why I say the price needs to spike very quickly, currently there’s not a whole lot of pressure on these hedges.
