Most of the time this is true, but myself and many other dealers decrease the price of a used vehicle as it ages. If it is 60+ days old most likely there is minimal profit in the price, if it's old enough we could have it priced at a loser.

This is very true.

Internet isn't killing car dealerships. It forces them to be more efficient. The ones that get good at it reap the most benefits. My dealership is in a small town and the internet allows us to expand our market greatly.

if youre like me and live in a big city I know I have the advantage. im in sales and I don't mind being blunt and upfront

I tell them what I want to pay final price and don't mention monthly price. we bought a pathfinder brand new with all the bells and whistles last year and the sticker was 42k, told them I wasn't paying a dime over 35, they laughed and came back with 38,500. I told them thanks for their time and I had 8 other Nissan dealerships in the area to visit.

they called me back and said 36k was the absolute lowest they could go and still make a buck. I told them im sorry to hear that and no hard feelings but I wanted to play the field and I was confident I could get it under 35. as we were in the parking lot the manager came and found us and said what will it take to buy the car, I told them I wasn't going a dime over 35k, and he said fine, did it for 35k on the dot.

my buddy got a SL pathfinder a month later and paid 37k. the platinum has about 3-4k more upgrades

my wife hates it but I always get what I want. too much competition

FYI the true car fair price was 38,000

Well, some of the dealerships I have dealt with will lead you to believe that it is.

There is nothing wrong with that.

Right. The ones that don't, won't be competitive and they go by the wayside.

Good for you for adapting to the changing model, and taking advantage. It seems some other dealerships should adapt as well.

Bizarre car buying story: I trade in accords every 3 years for work as a home health physical therapist and depreciate a third of its value every year for taxes. Was trying to trade in my 2012 SE accord a few weeks ago that had been badly wrecked twice. KBB value in "fair" condition, which may have even been a stretch for this vehicle was about 11,700. Went to 2 Honda dealers got offered 12.5 and 13 on the trade. Went to one guy who didn't even drive it and offered me 14 on the trade. This sucker needed new tires, brakes, made bizarre noises, and had 72k miles in 2.5 years haha. Got 14k on the trade and got a new one for 21 flat out the door below the "unusually low" true car price. Felt like I was stealing. Guess the guy was just asleep at the wheel.

Then again, isn't that how the dealer always wants you to feel?

Agree and also the fact that you have to pay insurance on what is on your lot.

This car was on the lot less than a 2 days and was the EXACT same car as they had just sold for at least 1k cheaper. That car had been on the lot for 45 days.

So when the sales girl pulled out the "Were only making a few hundred on this car" I laughed at her. When we said we were heading out is when the sales manager came over and said "We'd hate to lose you over a few hundred dollars"

After telling him I knew about the other car he said "Well this one has only been here for a day, so were not moving on it" to which I responded, "Great, well I'll come back in 30 days and we can do this dance all over again".

What do you mean coach? In terms of Honda's holding value they're a different animal? Because I was amazed and continue to be amazed at what I can get for mine after driving them into the ground for work. Will drive them my whole life even if I win the powerball haha.

Just searched true car for a few vehicles that my friends and family have recently purchased and they are high as horse pussy.

The unusually low end is still several thousand above what was actually paid.

Is that site just a fraud for car dealers?
