Curious.. if you were ready to pull the plug, had solid multi-million liquid assets, mid 50's, no debt, but wife wants to keep working, would you find it hard to retire? how would you spend your time?

I retired 5 years before my wife. I don’t understand what issue(s) you’d think you’ll have with that scenario.

boredom, resentment from wife if traveling / golfing trips.

You had no issues it sounds like? Did you pick up house stuff, travel, stay home?

If her work covers healthcare, and she wants to work, it’s a win-win…

No issues at all. I was always the chef and clean freak of family, so I had the time to devote to that. No resentment about me doing my things (fishing trips, hobby time). Bonus was accompanying her on her business trips to some great destinations.

Just realize you’re likely to spend a lot more retired in your 50s than you did while working in your 50s. Filling up 2000 hours per year when you’re relatively healthy is often much more expensive than you thought.

I did not, never regretted it at all. I do whatever I want when I want.

Wasn't a difficult decision seeing how I HATE accounting.

Would gladly do this. Solves the health insurance debacle you face otherwise.

There's a solid chance my wife won't be 100% interested in ending her career when I am ready to end mine. Maybe things change in the future but from where I'm sitting now I don't think her desire to keep working will have any effect on my desire to spend more time with kids, chill, play golf, watch sports, etc all day.

Hell I could even take care of all/most of the domestic shite that we currently split giving all of us more time to take vacations and shite. All while stacking more cash and sweet benies? Sign me up.

Nope. My wife and I talked about this. She said she wants to keep doing something and I just want to hunt and fish.

resentment from wife

If she resents you then you are on vacation and not retirement. There is still business to be handled in retirement. Work around the house, managing assets, errands, etc...

Your health is important too. Working out.

Reading books.

If you retire early and just throw in the towel and go on vacation you'll get bored and die.

I'm 9 years older than my wife. I look forward to retirement with her still pulling income.

That said, I think her plan is for me to keep working until she's ready to retire.

I would have significant resentment from my wife if I retired and she HAD to continue working.

Sounds like your wife WANTS to keep working.

She's probably having an affair with a coworker
