Who would charge someone to come over and swim at their pool? Is that how y'all do up in D.C.?

I don't get the anti pool crowd... If you want a luxury item, be it a Mercedes or a pool, just get it. These types of purchases aren't investments and I would think this is common knowledge by now.

Because when you decide you don't want your pool anymore it's not easy to get rid of.

Falls into the aforementioned category of common knowledge.

seriously, notiger1997 where do you live that you can pay 50 bucks a month for a "country club"? bet that place is disgusting.

Don't be a dumbass. I used the phrase country club because that is what they actually call it.

It is a swim club with two tennis courts and a small gym area. I did double check my info and it was $575 up front to join and is $58 a month, which is more than enough to keep the trash out and provide us with a nice place. It backs up to the levee by Lake Ponchatrain near Bucktown in Metairie. It also has a small bar and a pretty good snack bar. Good enough for me.

I do respect those that want a pool and have lots of friends who got new $40K and up packages in their backyards. I enjoy the hell out of theirs, but am glad it is not mine to take care of and pay for.

Lakeside is awesome for people with young kids, that is where we went when I was little. My parents put their pool in a year before I graduated college, kids did not factor into their decision.

I can jog and have my kids ride their bikes over there from our house. Much easier than me fighting traffic across town to Elmwood where I have a company paid membership.

IRL, I had to remove a pool/pool house, then backfill/compact/grade the area to sell a piece of property this year that was part of a double parcel. Many people want zero to do with a pool, which can limit resale opps. If one has to finance something that might actually detract from valuation in the future go for it. But, hey, it ain't my life or $$,$$$. I would have to spend a ton of money on tree removal to contemplate building a pool, then the tree guys would f up the stone walls during ingress/egress, so it is a non-starter---but I still like OTP's pools and will bring beer/dranks.

Agree completely! It costs about $200 per year and 1 hour per week upkeep for 6 months of fun.

No way it cost $200 a year for upkeep. But you are forgetting the utility increases as well as cost to put the damn thing in.

My dad said he spends about $80 in the Spring on a bag of salt, and about $60 on one of those vacuum things that runs around the pool all year but has a shitty design breaks every year, and that's it. I'm not sure what the utility increase is, theirs is heated, but according to him, its negligible. That's obviously a relative term.
