That is where I am at, with I guess the next step being public adjuster.

Do I have to declare that I will be doing a public adjustment, or do I have it done and just have them work with the insurance company?

How much are you looking for them to cover?

You just pick one, do your reseach, sign an agreement with them and let them hand it. You sign your representation over to them at that point.

And then, hopefully after they've won your case, you call State Farm and tell them to print out a copy of your policy and stick it up their keister.

I had State Farm when golf ball size hail hit my roof in 2014. The adjuster came out, looked around, and told me he didn't see enough hail damage to cover my deductible. I told him he was full of shite because I walked around the roof before he got there, took pics of all the spots where the granules were gone, and a roofer had already told me my roof was likely going to need to be replaced. Adjuster got an attitude with me and basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about. We were standing underneath my metal patio cover at the time so I told him "look up, you see all those dents? if it dented this metal cover it was bad enough to damage the shingles". He disagreed.

I said "how come everyone around me is having their roofs replaced by their insurance companies but you're telling me my roof didn't sustain damage? What kind of meteorological phenomenon is that called?". He left after that. I called my agent and told him I was switching companies and guess what - magically I had another adjuster at my house the next day and he spent 2 minutes on my roof then came down the ladder to write me a $10,000 check saying my entire roof was a total loss.

frick State Farm and their shady arse business practices.

Exactly. I was told by an adjuster that they look for two things for hail damage: dents in the soft metal and damage to other roofs. As the first adjuster was telling me that I had no damage, we were standing under my patio cover that had several dents you could see from the bottom, while they were literally ripping up my neighbor's roof next door. I told that a-hole that I must have the most lucky house in the world, as every house around me had already had a claim approved for hail damage. Apparently, hail storms skip entire houses completely.

call your agent, tell him IF HE WANTS TO KEEP YOUR BUSINESS, you want HIM, the ADJUSTER, and the ROOFER to have an onsite meeting to discuss the claim.

Get clarity on what SF requires. Is it a certain # of damaged areas within a 10x10 square? Try to understand in detail why it is getting declined.

This is accurate. Most insurance companies want to see a certain number of hail spots in a 10x10 square. The trick that adjusters play is they will find a 10x10 square that doesn’t have the damage and use that. You need to counter with a 10x10 that does have the damage.

If you’re afraid of getting on your roof then have your roofer draw out the square and circle the hail spots with closeups to show the insurance company.
