You should get out of that mindset.

Agree, completely opposite for me. When I was living more paycheck to paycheck (not quite that bad, but making average money) I was stressed the frick out about something major going wrong and not being able to meet obligations.

Now that I've progressed in career, had some lucky stints with bonuses, stocks, and the likes, and continued to stay focused, I've got more wealth at this point than i thought I'd have in my life and as I said earlier, 0 stress. I've got so much runway to endure bad things that I don't even think about it.

I'm assuming you already have at least several million dollars in cash or cash equivalents and at least several million in equities, some income producing with dividends. If not, if you are only spending $10K a month but making over $1M a year in salary, you will be before long.

Once you reach that point, I would retire and transition to passive income and not lose anytime with rentals or any other active income. Being retired with passive income that requires zero amount of your time and still exceeds your monthly spending is the way to go.

If you’re under say 40 and suddenly make an “extra” 100k to 200k a year, and you’re content with the life you live now, you can set your family up for generations if you keep yourself from upping your lifestyle.

My kids will get a great head start in adulthood once they get there, but they better learn how to make their own money because I'm spending all mine.

We are already at a point where we can do everything we want (house and beach house, invest, 529,utma, Trump account, donate) with our salary and still have a sizeable chunk left over.

Our problem is time.

We are actively finding ways to slow down and make less and have more time.

The only thing that would change our lives at this time is enough money to be able to retire today. That would be about $3 million
